Think an i7 930 will be enough for Kepler?

I'm ready to jump on the Kepler train at launch, but I'm wondering if my cpu will be enough to not bottleneck it @4.0. I guess my other concern is the lack of PCIE 3.0.

From reading things about CPU and PCI 3.0; the only way to take advantages of PCI 3.0 is having a processor enabled to work with the new architecture. AkA Ivy Bridge cpu. And 4.0 is well enough smile.gif.

That's basically what I'm wondering. If it will be worth it to upgrade to IB just for kepler or not. Not sure how bad 2.0 will bottleneck the card.

Possibly if you play @ 1080p and play CPU bound games.

Dont know about Kepler, but you definitely need a cpu that supports pcie 3.0 (like dejahboi said - ivy bridge cpu), not just mbo and gpu..

You sure about that? I know there isn't a huge bottleneck between PCIE and PCIE 2.0. IB isn't a big enough upgrade over bloomfield to justify the huge cost is what worries me. Probably looking at around $600 just for cpu and mb alone.

You'll be fine. The worst thing that'll happen is that you'll bottleneck your GPU in some RTS games or something smile.gif

It's hard to speculate when none of us have one in our hands. What I would do is pick one up on release date and see how it feels; And from there is where considering to upgrade if necessary, or sell it ( I'd assume selling one wouldn't be too hard at all). And according to many sites, bandwidth is doubled from 16GB/s to 32GB/s. So bottlenecking the card would say %50, that's just coming from my speculation lol, but just from that info. it's pretty dramatic. So a single card solution may pull off, but multiple would be a factor.

Sorry, I was going off his 1366 in his sig as there's no support for SB ( as of right now, you'll never know).
