GPU in Video Editing

Hi Overclock Friends!

What should I look out for when choosing a GPU for video editing? Memory? Processing?
Something about CUDA!
How does the GPU help with video editing/rendering?

Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks!

I haven't used a GPU in video editing that extensively yet, but so far my 460 never got pushed beyond 60% usage while crunching 1080P files. I wonder what something like a workstation card would do.
I don't think you need something extreme, my 460 also only saw like 50 to 200mb usage.
Get something nice for 100$ upwards. Further detail will follow by users with more experience.

I dont do video editing but I do transcoding. My 448 transcode a 720p movie @ ~250fps vs my cpu @~40. Although the image/video quality is a little bit worse than cpu. I dont really notice a difference but the benefits from tanscoding that fast in my own opions beats the little quality lost.

if you are going to use the videocard for just videoediting then don't waste your money.

What software are you using? Some use CUDA (Nvidia) and others use Stream (AMD) and some use both.

I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects. I know that they use CUDA- but what is it?
What about other popular editing suites like Sony Vegas and Final Cut Pro?
