What should I get?

Well, the time has come for me to upgrade my Radeons, seeing as my VRAM is becoming a limitation. I want to get either a 7870 or a 7850, and I plan to go to a CF setup in the future. Most benches say that a well clocking 7850 can play games at the same speed as a 7870.

Well I just got 2 of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127662 thumb.gif

I hope they live up to the reviews I have seen.

I'd spend less and get a single 7950 and not have to worry about drivers as much. I ran several sli rigs in a row. Glad I went to a single gpu.

I've never had issues with dual GPUs. I also don't have the money to spend all at once.

:thinking.gif: I've been considering 6870 2gb ph34r-smiley.gif
I've read (In several places) that 2 in x-fire can outdo a 7970

Why do you seem to think you need more VRAM again? What resolution do you play at? What games are you having troubles with?

I'm having issues with BF3, Metro 2033, Batman AC, and Crysis 2. I play at 1920x1080 (although I'm thinking about going to three way eyefinity), and I only have 2 GB VRAM available to use.

BF3, Metro, and Crysis 2...you need more GPU horsepower. It has absolutely nothing at all to do with VRAM, your 6870 just isn't powerful enough. Batman AC, I haven't played so I cannot comment, but I would assume its very Nvidia bound, like any other PhysX title.

You don't need more VRAM, you need more GPU horsepower. Which in turn, you'll probably also need more CPU power as well to keep from holding back the GPU, as Phenom II's can't hold up to the top end cards these days.

So would an OCd 7850 be enough? I usually see my performance drop off once the VRAM usage goes above 1900 MB.
