Both of these APUs will include a single Piledriver module and will fit inside a 65 Watt thermal envelope.

Just as its naming implies, the A6-5400K is the more powerful chip of the two as this comes packing a 192 shader Radeon HD 7540D on-board graphics core and a dual-channel DDR3-1866 memory controller.

In comparison, the A4-5300 has to make do with a Radeon HD 7480D integrated GPU with just 128 streaming processors, while the DDR3 memory speed is limited at 1600MHz.

Furthermore, the A6-5400K is also compatible with AMD’s dual graphics technology and has an unlocked multiplier, two features that were disabled in the lower performing A4-5300.

The clock speeds of these two accelerated processing units are not known at this point in time, but considering that the slowest quad-core Trinity desktop APU has a base frequency of 3.2GHz, Fudzilla expects these dual-core processors to support even higher clock speeds.

Both the A6-5400K and A4-5300 are compatible with FM2 motherboards and support AMD’s Turbo Core technology.

According to an AMD document leaked in the second half of last year, in terms of computing power, Trinity is expected to be about 20% more powerful than the current Llano APUs.

In addition, the chip will also bring support for a series of new instruction sets introduced with the Bulldozer architecture, such as AVX and AES-NI, as well as support for DDR3-2133 memory.

On the graphics side, the new Radeon HD graphics core is expected to deliver 30% better performance than Llano, while also coming with a new Video Compression Engine and support for AMD's EyeFinity technology.

Sounds good to me... A10 K here I come. Would be great if Trinity was able to fit into FM1 boards that way I dont have to get a new one with the chip. A bios update for support and good to go would be great. Though FM2 sounds pretty sweet. A lot better than IB with only two sata 6gbps while FM2 will support 8 natively. Intel needs to step it up on the chipsets. Seems like they are falling behind with all features that chipsets offer, sata 6gbps, pci-e x16, x16, usb 3.0, 1866-2133mhz memory support, etc.

Cant wait till IB and Trinity get to go head to head with real world performance and all around ability.

I would be keen to study the tests on what is the sweet spot $$/performance for memory to mate with Trinity : dun think 2133 is a must thumb.gif

read your excerpt but not the full article. Let me get this correct? Just the dual cores are coming out in Q3 of this year? So the quad cores will be launched sooner? Needs to hurry up cause I am getting a little impatient.

Pretty excited about Trinity as well.
Ivy Bridge will already own the markets before this hits the table, unfortunately....

To make matters worse, Windows 8 will be hitting the table around October too, so this may be too late for AMD, unfortunately...

I wish they would have pushed Trinity up faster! mad.gif

Nevertheless, this article isn't very revealing at all, not to mention it's purely speculative rumoring...

Yeah the quads should be coming near the end of may or the beginning of june. I cant wait either. When I talked to AMD customer service the other week, when I got my llano, I asked them about the release of Trinity desktop and they told me they would be released in March. I thought this a little weird since they havent yet released any chipsets for fm2. Anyway, I cannot wait until trinity is released. Its going straight in here with the highest end radeon hd it will pair with. When trinity is released I will be selling my llano A8-3870k and asus f1a75-m pro motherboard if anyone is interested.

I think AMD has a pretty good chance of trinity doing well against ivybridge. Seeing that they have some massive core clocks and that the non-K version are rated at 65watts which is 12 watts lower than IB quad cores. On top of that, we have native 1866mhz ram speeds and 8 x sata 6gbps which Intel is still way behind on. Also the fact that trinitys radeon cores will destroy intels hd graphics.

Now we all know that Intel has some crazy cpu horsepower and the chances of AMD taking the lead on IPC is highly unlikely, but as long as the cpu on trinity is fairly good and efficient, trinity should have a pretty damn good chance of being the overall better buy between IvyBridge and Trinity.

I think AMD has something really nice planned for us in the not so far future. As long as they can keep up the good work and staying focused on efficiency and their HSA plans we should see AMD bring back some major competition. Hopefully.

8 SATA 6Gbit/s ports?

This allows the APUs to support some serious file storage and file server use, without having to pay (and having to use up PCIe slots) for SATA cards or the like.
Though a serious user might use a hardware RAID card, anyway.
Still, it's pretty cool. It only confirms the point I made about Intel chipsets some time ago.
