BenQ XL2410/11/20 Club - Page 45

The XL2420TX can play 3D through HDMI, yes, but at what resolution and refresh rate? I know that HDMI doesn't have enough bandwidth for 1080p 120Hz so I was expecting that it can do 720p 120Hz. But when I connect my laptop to my monitor through HDMI, all it can do is 3D through 720p 60Hz which means my 3D games would only max out at 30FPS (60Hz/2). That seems to be on the low side. How then can this monitor be played by people using their PS3s?

Plugging my laptop to my monitor through dual-DVI link yields the maximum potential of 1080p 120Hz, so no problem there.

Please help. Thanks.

i believe it can do 120hz with HDMI 1.4a or something

PS3 does not support 120 Hz. PS3 3D is 720p, 30 FPS/eye. CoD runs at 60 FPS and BF3 only runs at 30 FPS for example. Neither of those do 120 Hz 3D. TV's also don't do true 120 Hz so even if the PS3 did output a 120 Hz signal, it would only work with a PC monitor which is not it's intended use. 3DTV's don't need 120 Hz because of natural motion blur in film (remember that a typical TV signal is 24 or 30 FPS) so 3D movies also play at 60 FPS.

At least those are my assumptions. I have no proof of that, but neither do I have proof against it.

Gotcha. But my main concern here is that can HDMI support 720p 120Hz 3D?

Hi all, I'm considering getting the xl2420t for my new PC, but I have a few questions, so I figured the owners club would be the best place to ask them. Are the colors on this monitor really that bad? From what I read, they were pretty bad even when compared to some cheaper TNs. Is this true, or is it a bit exaggerated? Otherwise, this seems like a great monitor, but if the colors are really an issue, I'll have to look for something else.

It is way exaggerated. The colors are, when calibrated, leaps and bounds better than the factory colors you get on cheap monitors and especially laptops. I see people every day with TV's and laptops that show nowhere near the real colors, that love their hardware and think it looks great.. Only snobs (like the OCN community) would cry about these colors on a 120 Hz gaming monitor. Don't get me wrong, if there was an alternative, I'd go for that, but the Samsung monitors are glossy which kills them for me. Yes, an IPS looks better. It's also a lot slower.

The only problem with the colors is that they are washed out. This is the only thing you should worry about, unless you edit photos professionally.

Thanks for the reply, B!0HaZard. I will mostly be using the monitor for gaming and movies, with an occasional photo edit (nothing professional). How hard is it to calibrate a monitor? I don't know much about monitors, only the basic stuff. Can a noob like me do it with some guides, or is it better to get someone more experienced? Thanks.

You need to buy expensive equipment to do it right, but setting the standard profile, using the right gamma setting (gamma 2 for color accuracy from what I've seen in tests) and maybe playing with the RGB setting a little goes a long way.

I bought the xl2420t too ,it is impressive as I thought ı got some questions guys

1)I watched some 60 fps Modern warfare 3 streams from twitchtv it looks damn smooth ,but when I play mw3 it doesnt feel as smooth as that ? (My res 1920x1080 at 120 in game options and monitor)
2)In Battlefield 3 for example I play at ultra settings what if I set a lower setttings will it make my moves smoother in the game
I mean in any game higher fps will make it smoother for120 hz monitors ?
