I've owned both the BenQ Xl2420T as well as the Samsung s23a700d. I gamed on both extensively, especially with BF3. The BenQ has been returned in favor of the Samsung.

A lot of people downplay the image quality issues of the BenQ, but even after calibration, not everyone will be satisfied. No matter which settings I used, I could never get certain colors to look normal (and yes, I tried some of the very same settings discussed in this forum and spent many hours calibrating/trying different things to no avail).

Overall, I much prefer the Samsung. Picture quality / colors are outstanding, and glossy > matte IF you have decent control over lighting. I will never go back to a matte screen after trying glossy with the Samsung. It seems easier to see fine details such as an enemy player's head sticking out above far away objects with a glossy vs. a matte screen. I used to be anti-glossy but have not come full circle.

Now, since I know this issue comes up frequently when discussing these monitors, input lag is quite fast for both BenQ and Samsung. Anyone that tells you that a few ms difference is going to make your game noticeably better is selling snake oil. Both have input lags that are considered very fast and way, way below human response time. If input lag is really your top criteria, then you should be buying the ASUS as it has the lowest. Note that I am not quoting #'s here b/c it varies slightly by source and the measurement is somewhat controversial. As for response time, Samsung has been reviewed as having the fastest and the most ghost free (the Samsung has neither ghosting nor reverse ghosting issues, although I did not notice ghosting issues with the BenQ).

Anyway, as you are well aware, the biggest factor is that both monitors are 120hz, and that is where you will really notice the benefit in terms of competitive gaming.

Good luck with your decision, but after having owned both, I am much more satisfied/impressed with the Samsung. Also, movies/browsing the internet/etc. look good on it. The BenQ seemed to only look decent in games. It looked awful when I watched movies on it.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I need my monitor rotate into portrait because of my work at home. Is there any choice other than Benq?

You should never use TN panels in portrait mode due to the horrible viewing angles. Get a different 120hz display (Samsung S23A700D 280$ or Asus VG236H 330$, both have better colours and less ghosting than the BenQ ) & an IPS or VA that can rotate into portrait mode. The Samsung S24A650D uses a VA panel and costs around 220$.
