1200watt PSU thoughts?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, so i been looking at picking up a another 1200 watt psu for a possible upcoming build, currently i have a HCP-1200 and was thinking of picking up a second HCP-1200 to use along with my current one?

In short i was wondering what 1200 what psu would be recommended, ive heard alot of good things about the AX1200 and the x-1250, could those be better options or another psu other then these? confused.gif

Thanks for the help! biggrin.gif

http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=6744 is my recommendation.

Until 30% load no fan, so less noise, less dust inside (fan only starts to cool when high load (ie gaming/editing etc)), single rail, good efficiency but it's 1300w. I would really recommend a "hybrid" psu as it means the manufacturers have to put in higher efficiency/components to be able to keep it fanless at low load, also less noise ftw.

Seasonic is AMAZING (and therefor anything manufactured by seasonic like Corsair and many others are also great PSU's).

Look for any hybrid psu
Look for a single rail
Manufactured by Seasonic
Has the connectors you want
MODULAR with everything but the 24 pin/one 8pin is GREAT.

AX 1200 hasn't been a value or performance leader in a long time... more so after the launch of the X-1250/Black Edition 1250...
I'd pick between the HCP, the Seasonic X-1250/XFX Black Edition 1250(internally identical, get the cheapest one) or a Super Flower GG 1300W based unit(Rosewill Lightning 1300 or Kingwin Lazer Gold 1300).

hmmm actually didnt know coolermaster made 1200+ watt psus >_< learned something new, but yeah i heard alot of good things about seasonic so i was considering them tongue.gif
but overall to me modular wont matter in the build so that wont be a stong deciding factor (but its always nice) just as long as it can power 4 cards and at least 1200 watts

ah okay, so the ax1200 might not be a psu to look into, but all those psu's should perform ...mmm pretty similar and should just get the best price?

Yeah, more or less... the Kingwin LZG 1300 and Rosewill Lightning 1300 are insanely quiet for 1.3KW units and can continuously output ~1500W without an issue... the X-1250/BE-1250 offer insane 12v regulation and are fully modular, though not as silent as the Golden Green units previously mentioned... and due to the way OCP is implemented(they are in fact quad rail units and not single rail ones) they'll not overload that well(the rail/connector arrangement is not optimal for overloaded use)... as for the HCP, you already know what is all about since you have one and I distinctly recall debating the HCP with you a while back wink.gif

There are other "amazing" manufacturers besides Seasonic you know, Delta and Superflower come to mind.

"Look for a single rail" - This is not good advice when considering such a high end unit. North of 750 watts a multi-rail power supply provides a great safety net in the event of a short that would overdraw one of the rails. With a single rail PSU you risk burning one of your components if a short occurs.
