This specific problem only happens in the EU, and it aint just with Asus.
I sell PC parts in my shop and I can guarantee you that if the company has an EU representative the same thing will happen.
This aint Asus fault. EU policies were made to protect the customer but when it comes into the computer business it only gets in the way.
XFX offerered life time warranties correct? EU states that they are only forced to give 2 years, their policies doesnt matter since by law its 2 years.
And I've seen customers take the company I work at to court just cause of this.
Munaim you dont need to explain what you went through to me, I already went through that. But I was informed and I knew the policies so I easily went arround it.

This is a problem with over a year old and they wont change it.
He got lucky some1 pulled some strings inside the company for him, doesnt happen all the time.
They have EU policies to back them up.

I'm sure the law is written so the MINIMUM is two years. XFX are likely just hiding behind the reputation of the EU as being somewhat more legalistic than the USA or Canada would be about consumer protection laws.

Also, EDIT to add:

Asus has had a bit of a 'reputation' in the past with taking RMAed boards and internally blacklisting their serial numbers, then reselling them as "reconditioned" boards without warranty. However because retailers sometimes like to omit to menton the lack of a warranty, I've heard of customers getting perfectly working motherboards only to have them fail later, and they find out Asus will not service the product because the original board was reconditioned from a faulty one. So they get whammied by the combo of an Asus policy and dishonest retailers. Fun times.

To be honest I've been fortunate that I've not had to make that many RMA requests in the last few years, most recent RMA I did with Western Digital was absolutely fantastic with no problems whatsoever. corsair is also fantastic, I've had the pleasure of experiencing their fantastic customer service. There have been talks about XFX all around the Internet and I was little wary purchasing my first XFX product but when made enquiries with XFX I was quite surprised. Basically I requested for additional sata power cables and without any issues XFX sent it out along with a couple black sata cables. All in all a brilliant service. Now I have mentioned this before even in some of those "horror" XFX threads, but I've said it must be a regional thing.

Well the feedback I have received from this thread has been mixed but I have recently read in the news section regarding Evga warranty and I must say I was quite happy with their new system (think its live now). The feedback recieved have not really spoken in regards to other companies but I kinda have an idea as to which companies excel in the customer service department. Most definitely corsair, WD, evga, samsung are on that list, there are couple more but can't remember now.

I have since changed the name of the thread and removed the EUR from the title as I'm not really sure of the practices in Europe, however, my general perception of the customer service here in the UK still stands. It may be be different in differents parts of Europe but here in the UK it's really really bad. Asus really need to jump start that idea of tech support here in the UK fast. For now they have lost a valuable customer.

Proof, thats too bold of a statment not to back up with some REAL articles and PROOF. And Again I feel really bad fro anybody who has had an RMA issue, I've been building rigs for 20 years and have NEVER had to RMA anything, if I happened to buy a dud product I would immediately return it to place of purchase and go on. If I bought a used product and it broke, well buyer beware I knew when buying a used item that it wouldn't be covered and expecting the company to RMA me for my mistake isn't fair. (That only happended once I bought a 9800 GTX used for $89 a few years ago, it died after 6 months of use, the company EVGA who says lifetime warrenty told me they will not cover 2nd hand transactions). So again since I never had to deal with RMA's I will not post anything else that may appear negative.

What? A guy I knew about five, six years ago had an RMA problem and it was down to Asus saying the serial number was no good because the board had been sold as new when it was reconditioned. No, I don't have newspaper articles or anything but I don't make stuff up.

Dude thats some strong stuff to post on a forum from something you remembering hearing from a "guy you knew " five years ago. Strong accusations like that NEED to be followed by articles or there just rumors like you just did, It takes a legitimate cliam like the OP posted and degrades it some what.
