SLI 460 bottleneck - Page 12

I saw this thread yesterday, I think i'll pitch in my 2cents.gif

I get roughly 90-97% usage on both my hawks at 800 core
My 955 is at 3.4 with a nb of 2.0 (yes you read that right, I got slightly annoyed and reset my OC when toying with my new ram :L)

468

These are the settings I have been using on MP while getting 40 min and 70 highs and about 55ish avg at 1080p

I would pull up a SS/video of the perf but I got rid of Origin after it asked me to re-dl 13GB of the client -_-

Using stress test's you'll be able to get your CPU under full load, but in the real world, doing gaming and the like your only going to hit full usage on rare occasion. First, most video game's are Dual Threaded, Meaning the game can only use two "Cores", They can be virtual or physical core's but most game's only use 2, some game's still use only one thread(single threaded applications). Skyrim is a brand new game and only dual threaded, so on your rig the most you'll EVER see skyrim use is 2 full core's or 50% utilization + what ever your running in the background. BF3 is unique because it has a "scaling resource usage". If you have 6 core's golly its going to do its best to put load on all of them. If you have only 4 gigs of RAM it will scale its RAM usage accordingly, Add in another 4 gigs for 8 total and BF3 will alter how much RAM it use's. Same with GPU Vram. If you only have 1GB it will make do, but if you have 2 it will use more.

But back to the point. When I play BF3 on my sig rig(was just doing it) my average CPU usage at ultra settings with goodies turned down/off as needed I only use about 65-75% of my CPU clocked at 4.7Ghz(intel i5) on rare occasion it will bump up to 80-90 or even break 90 for a split second but then its back down to 60-70 range. I hold a pretty constant 60 FPS(different GPU) but the CPU usage was similar between my 6970 and my 460 SLI on this rig. When I play with Vsync off my CPU usage's jump a few % but nothing major, the only difference is my GPU stay's pegged at a solid 99% usage with 1.3gigs or more of VRAM used (pending on map) and my FPS is 45-150ish instead of 45-60with Vsycn on. These exact number won't mean much as they where taken from my sig rig(different CPU and GPU) but you can still get an idea of what I'm talking about. Even the guys with the leet leet Water cooled i5 2500k's @ 5.0Ghz and SLI 580GTX have trouble maxing out this game. All you can realy do is pray they fix it with the next patch tongue.gif

Ohh, here something to check out, What are your Nvidia control panel settings set to? post some screens of the various tabs of it. You might be forcing extra AA or something silly like that? when you did the drivers did you use driver sweeper?

Philips Brilliance 202P4 22" CRT @2048x1536 85Hz

If he's running this resolution, his 460's are going to be stressed pretty hard.
SSAO, FXAA, no MSAA, medium settings. He's also taking critical points of load off the CPU.

It's little things like resolution that really need to be stressed. You can't just assume that your set up with the same hardware is going to perform the same as someone else's when your running double the resolution or different graphical settings.

It's crap like this that makes this forum a minor in technical help and a major in frat-boy money spending and ricer rigs.

HOLY CRAP SpartanVXL's SETTINGS GIVE GOOD USAGE!! because of graphical demand, I get it.

Between 80-95ish
Good, and fps is good as well. NICE

But the game maxed out looks f-ing ugly as shiat.
It looks blurred.

Will mess around with some settings and see what happens...

This is why I get testy when the :AMD sux buy intel brah" posts start showing up. Its also very hard to do tech support over the internet. There are only 5 1/2 billion things that could be causing any one problem/issue. Then add in the fact that even those with amazing skill and ability will make asinine mistake's now and then.
