I wasn't aware of that. Makes sense. Now I'm wondering if my fan controller is my enemy. I've noticed some fans seem to run a lot better and quieter when plugged direct into the power supply, but I thought it was my imagination. Great. I have a cheapo fan controller (the Sunbeam Rhoebus. It has a nifty pwm feature but nonetheless it seems rather low build quality).

Any recommendations for something under $50 that maybe only screws up the fans a little bit, rather than a lot of bit? What stats should I be looking for? I know rated wattage is not always reliable; my sunbeam claims 30w per channel and can barely run 2x low rpm scythe slipstreams off one header.

Rheostats?

I have no knowledge of how particular fan controllers work. Some apparently use a form of 12v PWM, where the fan gets a percentage of the power it should, but stuttered. Other fan controllers give a percentage of Voltage, so the fan gets a variety of Voltages.

Even PWM-controlled fans tend to click. That's why the Noctua folks are so pleased with their new WPM fans -- no clicking.

I do use Voltage reduction cables some times. But you have to make sure the fan the cable was designed for draws the same or more current than the fan you will be using. Otherwise the resistor can get quite hot.

I'm not sure what sort of voodoo the Sunbeam uses to for its pwm trick. I played around with it but stopped because using that one header to control differently located/sized fans is rather silly.

I used to use voltage cables for everything but I got spoiled by fine tuning. Maybe I'll check out one of the Scythes.

Dunno. Would you like to send me an AP-29 so I can find out? My wife has put me on a fan diet . . .

Personally, I think Scythe would find a market if they sold the GT 2150's as AP-16 PWM's. But for the moment, this is what we have. And the group buy got us these fans much more cheaply than retail. OTOH, much of the price difference may have come out of Tator Tot's admin's and especially mortimersnerd's hides. Ain't nothin free.

Yeah, they also took almost a year to receive, lmao.

Yes, I have seen it smile.gif
It's a great movie, which I instantly knew Totoro was your avatar from when I first saw your avatar smile.gif

My Neighbor Totoro is a unique film, it gives me a feeling unlike any other films I have seen, and so extremely positive one as well smile.gif
I want to see more films from Studio Ghibli, Grave of the Fireflies was the first DVD I got, I also have Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, but I have yet to see it. I've seen several other films from them as well, and own them as well, though Grave of the Fireflies has disappeared long ago. But that is a war tragedy film, which I feel not able to watch lately.

I've been wanting to mention that I loved My Neighbor Totoro on several other occasions before to you, but I didn't want to appear as I was trying to kinda "smooth talk" to you smile.gif

I like you, you give me a good feeling thumb.gif

The picture was kinda illustrated surrounding the group buy biggrin.gif

LOL!!! I have seen the film and my daughter and I really enjoy it, but until you mentioned it I always thought your avatar was a donkey . . . redface.gif

Anyway, thanks for the info on the fans, I just got my 2150 fans yesterday. If you have some inks to sleeving these things, please let me know. What fan contoller(s) would you recommend using with these, and how many can I connect per channel?

Danke!
