Half of the sellers on ebay and such will stick it to you if you have a problem with the unit in a week, month, year down the road. You would be better off sticking to a lower cost retail unit like this, if price is an issue. If you can find packaged, and sealed units for cheaper on Ebay then on Amazon or Newegg then by all means its a good deal. As all warranty information should roll over as its still packaged with the original unit. But Ebay and what not are nothing but power sellers making a quick buck off clueless consumers now days, here is a prime example. You can't even find the HX650 any cheaper then the retail price on Newegg. On the side note you can check OCN market place and see if any are in there for a decent price. I just wouldn't buy any units new/used without proof of purchase (guaranteeing manufacture warranty is still covered).

this^^

I'm down with recycling parts however the psu is the most vital component in a rig. Some ppl have referenced the psu as the heart of a build - supplying clean power through the components. If you choose the marketplace, on Warmonger's advice make sure proof of warranty is intact and/or transferable. God forbid a problem arises and the psu craps out, killing everything then there is at least backing from the manufacturer through warranty

Yes they can, manufactures have spent lots of time trying to make fail-safes so when the PSU craps out it doesn't fry the rest of the machine. But with any type of electronic its unpredictable. Usually they take the GPU or the motherboard with them when they seriously fail. The only way to protect yourself from this is a good warranty backed by a good company. Several manufactures warranty your PSU unit along with the rest of your machine that requires direct power (which is about 99% of the machine). So if something ever happens they will replace the PSU and the faulty component. Which is quite useful when a $90 PSU takes a $500 video card with it. Just another reason to buy brand new, or from someone with warranty roll over.

they are known to, they are like the heart of the system and when they blow they can kill an entire system but as the above mentioned nowdays they are more safe and may only take out components directly connected to them such as Mobo and maybe your GPU.. also you must be sure that its not a non-transferable warranty on the PSU
