Installed 32 gigs ram on my Crosshair V only recognizing 24 gig anyone have this happen ? I have Komputerbay 1333 ddr3 ram 8 gig sticks w/ AMD 8150 cpu -win 64, Windows sees it (all 32gig) but only state that 24 is useable any advice would be appreciated the Bios is the one out of the box dated 12-27-11 I think it was #802bios Trying to figure is it the ram or a setting or the bios or what

Thanks oka1

Did you reset the cmos? That's usually the first thing I try when I have problems like this.

You said windows can see all 32gb, is it windows saying only 24gb is usable or some other program? It could just be a glitch.

Also what version of windows 7 are you using?

What exact version of windows 7 do you use? I know Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit only can handle 16gb of ram.

If you're using anything above Home Premium, you could type "msconfig" in windows search box, go to the "BOOT" tab and then click on the "Advanced options..." make sure that "max Memory" isn't checked. That got me stuck one time. rolleyes.gif

Does it show 32gb of ram in the bios? How about when you pull up the task manager?

Right click on a blank area of the start bar and click "Start Task Manager," then click on the performance tab.

BTW if you have that much ram you should consider looking at this thread if you don't already know how to use ramdisks.

System properties sees it as "32 gigs installed 24 usable"

Task manager says 24 gigs installed I reset cmos, and did everything else ppl recommended plus reinstall the ram installing in different slots (rearranging)

I guess I ll return this ram and get something different........ Never have had an issue with any asus board before so unless someone else has a suggestion I guess get different ram

Weird.......... got me stumped

Unless you really need that much ram for something just pick up a 16gb kit. That should be more than enough for the average user.

Unfortunately, 16 gigs is running @ 95% + on a consistent basis when running 3d with music/scoring graphic programs, So the I went to 32 gigs, Based on all the recommendations I am guessing that it really is most likely a bad ram stick more than anything else........ I agree if I were just playing on face book or email, I would just get a 386....... but then I found as I bump up to the max I then upgrade...... and have been for 25 years..... and... to think I paid 600.00 for 8 mb ram and now its 300.00 for 32 Gigs........ times do change...biggrin.gif:thumb:

Well then hopefully it works out when you get new ram. You could always test each stick individually, but if you can just return it then that's probably the simplest option.
