Clean My Corsair HX850W?

Thread Starter
What's the best way to clean my unit?
I've also been told that even when the computer is off and unplugged, power can remain within the unit, which concerns me when it comes to handling the unit.

Dust is forming on the circumference and the fan blades with minor dust on the internal components.

Thanks for the advice.

That used to be the case. Those silver heatsink looking things can sometimes carry a charge, and so can the coils. Getting shocked doesn't hurt anyways, it just feels like a very intense tingling where the electricity is conducted. Just blow it off with some air, just remember to angle the air so it blows out exhaust style.

I would suggest just blowing it out with air like redsunx suggested. I have torn down plenty of PSU's before to clean and replace fans and have never been shocked. I always unplug and Power cycle the PSU a few times first before remove the housing.

Yeah, air will clean up the components but, the dust on the fan blades and outer area seems to be hugging the unit. Don't think compressed air will do it. I just find the whole thing shocking.

Doesn't taking apart the PSU;s void the warranty?

I just grab my air compressor, it always works very well. I'll use a pencil or something to hold the fan in place to thoroughly clean that too.

Q-tips dabbed in alcohol! and then a once over with a dry q-tip. Also, coffee filters are safe to scrub with.
