Try remounting ur cpu block. That usually helps the most out of everything since bad temps usually coincide with a bad mount. You could have as much rad as in my rig and still have crap temps with a bad mount. Remember that ambient temps also plays a huge role.

May need to loosen timings...chances are..one of those sticks isn't going to do it right..
Will need to add vtt/vccio voltage..(start @ 1.12-1.15)eh..nm on that..Haven't researched that on that chip..eh..just bump it up
from whatever it is some..Find out what the max is there.

what? I'm running XMP with 8 sticks no problem and only using the 1.5v its rated for.

thanks man i will remount that also, it has been hotter than hell here in PA the past few ddays 75 F in march..

ya about the memory...no idea what to do, it all shows up in the bios, so its working, no idea how to proceed from there

Yes everything will equalize no matter what order but the question is will changing the loop raise or lower that equalized temp. Loop order does make a difference but it is small. For most loops it's only a few fractions of a degree C off the load temp which is why most people say it doesn't matter. Your loop might see a little bit more improvement than average since you have four heat generators lined up, but I am doubtful it will be more than a degree or so at most. To be clear, all that refers to LOAD temps not idle temps.

Similarly, the effect of putting the CPU directly after the three GPU's will only be seen when those cards are working. When you're not gaming, those chips won't put out much heat. You said your temps were looking high on idle and I assume that means the GPU's were idle too, so I don't think loop order is affecting this issue.

You sure you're a newb? That build looks sweet thumb.gifbiggrin.gif

@threephi I used the arctic mx-4 that came with the EK water block, a little tube of it, i thought i got it on there pretty good. Also the bios stuff, ya everything is set back to the defaults, like i said out the only thing I have been able to get to post is the memory timings themselves, everything else freezes the bios, but then again im a total noob at overclocking, i just figured getting the motherboard to recognize the kind of memory speed im using wouldf be a good place to start.
Mike

Is this a brand-new build? Will everything boot correctly at default BIOS speeds including memory timings?

If you feel confident you are doing everything with the BIOS correctly, it's possible you have a bad stick. Try swapping them out to see if you can isolate whether any are bad. Also if you can please post a screen image of CPU-Z on the "spd" tab so we can see what the XMP settings are.

thanks dude, ya its brand new build, and ya im a total noob, if you ever use a ek bridge make sure you pay attention to the screw sizes, or else you will end up with a garbage can full of wet paper towels, ask me how i know biggrin.gif ,total new guy mistake and it tok forever to build too, so if loop order isnt it, i suppose i should just try remounting the cpu block, also i forgot to mention every once in a while i see a bubble or two pass through the tubing...i dont suppose this has anything to do with it. yes all the ias stock setting boot the computer up just fine, its when i go to change anything it gets dorked up somehow.. like i said i ran mem test and all sticks reported no errors, but i will post cpu-z screenshot , so stand by for that

yes..but you may not have the same RAM as him..and vtt/vccio is the IMC voltage on the chip..More RAM sticks.may need more IMC voltage.

Well if you're seeing air bubbles then that likely means you have an air pocket in your top rad, which means it's not performing up to where it should. I don't think that will affect idle temps too severely but you want to work those bubbles out as best you can. Just make sure you keep the res filled enough so the out port is completely submerged.

If the temp in your room is 75 degrees ambient, this is very likely contributing significantly to the idle temps you are seeing.

About the overclocking and BIOS issues... are you all studied up on what to change and how to do it? If there's anything you're not entirely clear on how to do, don't do anything until you've boned up on it more. Without more specific detail as to precisely which settings cause what error to happen, it's hard to diagnose what's going on... the rule of thumb however when troubleshooting something like this is to be extremely methodical and deliberate. Change only one thing at a time, whether it's a piece of hardware or a BIOS setting so you can isolate what the exact problem is.

Also try posting in the Intel CPU forum, you will likely find some good advice there about how to overclock your chip and diagnose the problem.

Waitaminit... are you changing settings from the windows app? Those apps are notoriously unreliable and unstable. Do it from directly from the BIOS when you boot up, before windows loads.

The dimms should be able to run at their rated speeds at their rated voltage. If they don't then they need a RMA. I had that same issue with my GTs. They required more voltage to reach the same speed as marked on the box. That is not ok.

All relatively "new" cards downclock when idle. They have for generations. His temps don't actually seem bad for his ambient taking into acct everything in his loop.

OP it seems like either bios settings of ram issues. X79 is rather funky when dealing with ram settings and overclocks. I could only get my GTs to run at 1333 for the longest time, even after RMA, until I hunted for the right settings. There doesn't seem to be an overclocking guide for ur mobo out, but one for any higher end x79 board should do just fine. This isn't for your board, but explains how to deal with memory tweaking on X79. Give it a shot. Helped tons with my issue.
