Building a workstation for a client and just looking for some feedback- budgets about $2500. The client stresses reliableity above all else. Heres what im thinking-

CPUs: Intel Xeon E5-2620 (2GHz 6core) (x2) -$800
Motherboard: SUPERMICRO MBD-X9DRL-IF-O -$380
RAM-8 4GB server dimms-$200
Video card-AMD Radeon HD 6570-$55
Coolers-Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO (x2) -$70
Case-Coolermaster Haf 912-$60
PSU-Seasonic MK11 650-$130
+cheap dvd drive
Drives:
Boot drive-Western Digital Velocaraptor 300GB-$150 (got a good deal)

Don't more video editing software now support GPU acceleration? Maybe bump up the GPU a little if that's the case especially if your client is using a multi-monitor setup or res higher than 1080.

I would think that a single LGA2011 E5 and get a crossfire cfg, since video editing is mostly GPU work, I think.....

I dont think his software has gpu exceleration, but maybe i should get a 550ti in case. The software given to him by the university is absolutly terrable truthfuly. Puts most of the work of the cpu and is very poorly coded at that, it was desinged for the places mainframes (witch were shut down due to budget cuts) and was never scaled down well

have you thought about an AMD wordstation? if you hare going for raw CPU power, you would be better off getting p4 AMD serevr chips... they are extremely good on that side of teh market

here those cpus are no more available for 100$ used the last i saw they were available on ebay for 100$ now 15o$ anyways here
AMD OPTERON 8 CORE CPU 6128 2.0GHz 150$

any ways new is for 270$ on egg so grab two of them and a TYAN S8236GM3NR-IL 489.99$

Im looking at it. thou i stressed multicore performance im worried 2ghz opteron aint enough single thread to make it smooth. Also reliablity is a main point here, so i dont know if i should go used
