CDProjectRed will never do this. Trust me. Witcher 2 was incredibly successful, and it's getting a free makeover/expansion just like The Witcher 1 did. They are one of the best companies out there and truely care about their PC fans. They know it's the best way to make games, and then port it to the consoles later. I don't think the company was ever about selling "millions" of copies, they treat their games like art. thumb.gif

Crytek on the other hand... not so much in my opinion.

OP, it doesn't really discuss the perceived quality differences between 9 and 11, but it definitely showcase the odd way in which they implemented things. smile.gif

Even with tesselation off
DX11 < DX9
in pretty to performance ratio.

Sure, they might have a DX10/11 MODE, and it may have a few additional features, but all they did was copy past the dx9 code into a dx10/11 translator. The only new code is what they added for the "dx10/11 exclusive features".
If they actually wrote a game from the ground up in the DX11 api, it would look better AND run smoother than a dx9 game. That's the whole point of the new API in the first place - to allow greater efficiency and provide standardization for new technologies (which translate into new effects ie tessellation).
As for the question of if I believe that this will become the norm... it already has. ALMOST all pc games in the last 5 or 6 years have been dumbed down to console standards. Publishers don't care about PC. It's a small, not particularly profitable market. They would rather make a game for xbox that will sell like crazy, and then spend an additional $100 bucks porting/forking it for PC to collect a few thousand dollars off the odd remnant PC gamer.
Is it going to end? Nope, not until PC gamers make enough of a fuss about it and stop rolling over and making excuses for the developers/publishers to get away with this kind of behavior. Even then, most big publishers will simply choose to go console exclusive rather than invest heavily into the low profit PC market unless people stop blindly buying shoddy cookie cutter console games for 6 year old consoles.

When the Wii U comes out we can hope we'll see more widespread adoption of DX11 features, as the Wii U should handle them

if the wii-u is anything like the wii was, no one's going to bother selling serious games on it. It'll all just be casual family friendly stuff that uses the gimmicky motion controls to an exaggerated degree. Those games won't translate into the PC gaming world.

Think about it. How many wii games do you see on the PC today? Not talking about emulated via dolphin.

True..to an extent...

the Wii U definitely seems to be an -attempt- at making the Wii grow up a bit with the focus on the "normal"-ish touchscreen psuedo-tablet controller.... But theres still the potential for it being, as you said, stupid crap gimmicky games...

Though, they also announced there will be an Assassins Creed game for it, as well as a few other more "adult" properties... So who knows?
