Help Deciding on Graphics Card?

Thread Starter
I currently have my sig rig but with no graphics card. I was planning on getting the Asus DCII 7970 when in stock, however this deal on newegg got me thinking.

I could stretch and get two of those. Would it be worth it? How much of a performance increase will I see over a single OC'ed 7970? Also will my 850w PSU be enough for two of them?

I believe 850w is enough to run both 580s, although mind you as good as SLI 580s sound, a single card will definitely be more reliable. Seeing your rig and running on a single monitor, I'd go for the 7970. thumb.gif

Forgot to mention that I'll be running triple 1080p monitors in the near future. Does this change your opinion at all?

That is a nice price drop on those. I am not sure if you could run two of them on an 850 but I would imagine so. I was running 2x evga gtx 570's plus water cooling on a corsair hx850. If you can wait though, I would recommend holding off until the 680 comes out to see how it fares. It is supposedly releasing on the 23rd and will be the same price as a 7970. From what I've seen so far, it appears to be on par with the 7970. As always, the nvidia cards will be a bit better in some areas and the AMD cards better in others. Either way, I would go nvidia for the Phys-x but that is just me.

I would also get dual cards. I have had dual cards in the past and some games only use one card some use two but i get 10fps more or i get 50fps more. It really depends on the game. Plus Kepler is coming out this year so a new AMD card will be worth more in the long run since it also came out this year.

True to both of you. I'll wait and see what Kepler has to offer. If it's not much and the 580 deal is still there I'll snag a couple.

Well there are reviews going around the web for 7970 on Eyefinity, and they seem to be pretty good, I'd suggest taking a look. Like Shaitan said as well, Kepler is just around the corner, if you can maybe hold out a few? more days you should take a look at the 680.
