The cables are most certainly the problem. The controllers can handle the information in parallel while the signal has to be transmitted in serial. USB 3.0 can be handled by a 128bit controller running at just 62 MHz. Transmitting 60 GBit/second over a single line is physically impossible with copper cables. Its not even possible with IR, as the frequency would fall into the visible spectrum.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from, but I was talking about fiber. 60 gbit on fiber is not a problem. So, like I said, the cables (provided they're fiber) are not the bottleneck when it comes to super high bandwidth applications as long as the endpoints can handle it.

If you think about it some sort of "virtual reality" thingy is sorta inevitable as all that protable stuff (smartphones, tablets, etc) are at the moment mainly held back by their displays in regards of usability as processing power is there, but its awkward to use for some stuff one could use it for. So first one to pull off a HUD in properly usable way and cheap enough will get probably filthy rich.

Good luck waiting, the technology probably had extreme limitations or downfalls and was ditched. This happens all the time with technology, e.g. it's not affordable, it's dangerous, causes eye strain, uses too much power, etc.

A user's ability to sprint would be limited by their own stamina. I don't think we would see many people sprinting very often in multi player fps games. Not to mention you can forget about trying to play Sonic lachen.gif
