GPU Usage with GTX 480's Sli

Thread Starter
I just built a new system that for some reason on 3dmark vantage and battlefield 3 the gpu usage jumps from 99 to as low as 60's. I don't think this should happen with my new system and I'm pretty sure it didn't happen with my old 2500k with my 480's

CPU i7 2830 @ 4.7ghz
GTX 480 SLI @ 800/1600/1880
rampage iv extreme motherboard

I was just wondering if this was normal and i'm just worring or if something is wrong

Drops in GPU usage in Vantage are very normal, esp. in the Jane Nash test, when running in Performance mode with a powerful SLI setup. It's just some mild CPU bottlenecking at certain parts.

Try running it in Extreme mode ... is the problem solved? My bet is that it will be.

Also, online games are absolutely famous for random GPU usage drops ... and there's so many things that could be involved in this occurring that you're best off not worrying about it. No joke, you can waste a large chunk of your life trying to run it down, and quite easily never 'solve' the issue.

Sometimes you simply aren't going to get full gpu usage ... in fact, that happens very regularly, esp. with really powerful SLI setups thumb.gif

Thanks for the reply guys I was actually worried something was wrong. And you were right I turned it to extreme and no gpu usage was lost.
