The initial overclocking results i've seen were worse. I think there's been a few sources claiming 100+ C at 5GHz with low voltage. I think someone with a ES sample claimed 4.8GHz was max and temps were still very high.

Ivy Bridge is shaping up to be... not what we expected. I'm still afraid both kepler and ivy bridge are going to fail, and that's what i've been waiting half a year for..

I know how you feel... frown.gif I've been looking at a few of the rumors and benchmarks and they seem scary but we will see when release date comes out. Hopefully it won't turn out to be like BD but the worst case is we go back to 2600k's or even sb-e frown.gif

Guys the higher temperature is obviously from the Tri-gate transistors. You have to remember they're much more packed in tightly compared to Sandy.

This problem will probably gone once the process matures and 22nm is the "norm"

Cinebench isn't really highly multithreaded, video encoding is. It really takes advantage of more cores. (Hence why an FX-8150 can match a 2600k in that...)

Definitely looking at a 3770k though, get the great single threaded and multithreaded performance.

I'll hazard a guess its got something to do with the new IGP and Intels really bad graphics drivers. Maybe it's not disabled or something.

People have to remember that 32nm was a really good process for Intel, 22nm being average as it seems so far looks a lot worse due to 32nm being so good. Not to mention, Intel aren't trying for ultra fast CPUs now. They're going for best power per watt, with emphasis on the watt.

Yeah but power consumption is the same as 2500K. The way i see it would take longer time to go buy the CPU remove 2500K install 3570K then the time in total the 3570K saves you during 1 year of service. Also the Temps are higher and still dont know anything about OC ability. The way i see it is leave 22nm for the next gen CPU when it gets better. SB was second gen 32nm CPU.

I would prefer 2x more power consumption but colder temps (lol). Less power consumption and higher temps doesn't really interest me... unless the processor somehow still overclocks great on water. I really want to hit 5GHz 24/7.

If these are all true i'm going to either have to grab a 2600k or 2700k, or just get the 3770k. Both are better than my i7 920, but it's still annoying that I would even be debating going Sandy when I've been waiting for Ivy for so long.

Get a Proven 5Ghz 2600K or just a 2600K on the Cheap once 3770K is out. They are better then you 920 but having had one SB its a huge improvement in Temps and Power Consumption. I have my 2500K @ 1.45v and its does not even warm up my 360 RAD @ all with 3 Fans @ 5v.

I thought the consensus was that when the chips got smaller..they were going to produce less heat.Well..Now that it's a reality..the opposite seems to be the case.:thinking.gif: Wonder if they'll
charge less since they cost less to make rolleyes.gif IMO..Intel needs to revamp the IHS/silicon contact..
maybe do it like corrugated paper or something.Something needs to be done to disperse that heat coming off of the silicon faster.
