OK, my selection is made : 8 GB Samsung 30nm !
I went to Fry's last night and grabbed a set of the little buggers for all of $39.99.
I popped them in and set all memory related settings to Auto, and they fired up @ 1.5 v 9-9-9-24. I then proceeded to experiment. I set them @ 1.7v for grins, and they auto tuned to 1958 Mhz 11-11-11-28!! I was never able to get memory to boot at the top speed settings allowed in the BIOS before. Even with my "2000 MHz" Corsair set. The overall throughput is "mediocre" (yet higher than my corsair 4 GB 2000 Mhz set) at those settings, but the 55.6 latency is the lowest I have seen on this rig. At stable settings anyways. I was able to get around that low or maybe a fuzz lower with my Corsair, and make MaxxMem runs but it wasn't really stable at those settings. The Samsung seems to be stable at these settings.

I tried lowering the timings and lowering the voltage at the 1958 Mhz level, but it was a no-go. I will have another try at that today.
I then proceeded to try and get the best timings possible at the 1600 (1632 with my bus speed) speed. I tried 8-8-8-24 at 1.5v and it fired right up. I then tried 8's @ 1.35v and the latency was a fuzz lower and the throughput higher! Amazing. Here is the 8-8-8-24 settings @ 1.35 v
As you can see , the Samsung has better throughput and lower latency than the Corsair, all while running @ 1.35v compared to the 1.7 v needed to make the Corsair run at these settings!
I then proceeded to try and get to 7 CL. I set the CL to 7, and put the rest of the settings on auto, and tried 1.35v-no, 1.5,1.65v-no, 1.7v and it booted @ 7-9-9-24:
Then I manually set it to 7-7-7-21 and it was a no-go. CMOS reset time
. Resetting the CMOS is a pain now that I have a second GPU towards the bottom. I tried a few other 7CL settings combinations, and found that it would run @ 7-8-8-22 1.7 volts.
I ran a "stress test" of a few rounds of Napoleon: Total War and it appears that the 7-8-8-22 1.7v settings are stable. I have currently settled on the 1.35 v 8-8-8-24 settings for now. I will continue to experiment and see just what these little gems are capable of in my 555 rig. Thanks for the tip Tarun! It was a hard sell, but after hearing a couple of members say they were able to get this ridiculously cheap RAM to run great on their AMD rigs I decided to go the cheap OC route and not settle for the easy more expensive route and ended up with better performance. + rep @ ya!Edited by Jagged_Steel - 3/22/12 at 9:37am
