I know they're catering to different markets, but just as a for-instance, Steelcase wants 1500USD for this. Being an aficionado of the simple wood table, I would never buy one of these desks, but 2K for a computer desk that is built from the ground-up with the enthusiast in mind sounds pretty reasonable. Besides, it's not like they're pumping them out of a factory 5000 units an hour or something; people that buy this, I am sure will look at the 2K price tag and not even blink.

Edit: hey, I just quantum-entangled the manufacturer's response. Cool!

Well, I had actually been referring to lowering your marketability towards even the extreme/enthusiast users. I don't know too many people who fit into that category who would be willing to drop 2k on a desk/case.

One thing I am wondering, and I apologize if this has been answered before, but why build the desk as a 2 computer holding system? That must add a significant amount of cost to the manufacturing process due to needing way more material and components than a single system desk. Would a single system desk not be much more useful for even those extreme people?

Also, those steelcase people are out of their mind. Who on earth would buy that lol.

Nice, thanks for the updates & photos! Still very excited about this project biggrin.gif (won't be able to afford one for a few years, and this passing the girlfriend test will be quite difficult, but it'll happen...)

We are just excited to be offering the product, we think its worth the cost but its up to the customer to decide if its worth it to them. We will be working on a more affordable version in the future.

The desk was designed for a single system based off of Peter's (L3p) design, and will be available as either a single or dual system configuration. There isn't a huge need for a dual system rig but it could be used as a gaming rig with a built in home server. I will be building a dual system in the prototype desk, one for gaming and one for CAD work/rendering, using a KVM switch. We have also received a number of inquires from DJs and also companies that want to use the desks as trade show displays. Its totally up to the customer to decide what they want to do with the desk.

Well, congratulations on actually getting your product out the door and into production. It is definitely an accomplishment. Even if I can't afford it tongue.gif I'm excited to see what other people do with it.

Are there any plans for a single motherboard/desktop configuration? (Apologies if it's already been answered).

I'd love to have one, but it's a bit overkill as it is and my wife would kill me if I spent 2 grand on desk.

Aptly named.

How about a prototype-test buildlog? smile.gif

Don't worry about the price. People pay loads for a caselab as well and this is a billion times cooler and more practical.

But it is a hard market to get into. People that buy this have a lot of money but aren't modders themselves. Still I hope you will be succesfull. thumb.gif
