Agreed... it's really amazing.

These benches aren't to show off the card, only reason they are here is because we asked him to do it. It's not like he bought this card to throw it in an i3 rig.

The question wasn`t directed at him. I am thankful that he tested it for us. Kudos to you OP for that.

The question was more of a general question. Would anyone do it? I would feel so bad choking that GPU tongue.gif

I haven't read the last 10 or so pages and was about to ask what the general census was. Honestly I'm hoping the cards are dead even. I like when there is no "bad" choice between the two. I have two main rigs, one sports a GTX 480 and one has crossfire 5770's and I love both. And lets be honest, the majority of us here are not going to splurge on a gtx 680 anyways, we are simply curious as to what nvidia has up their sleeve.

Technically...it was supposed to be, yes. This is the lower end of the new architecture. Using a much smaller die than the 7970, and just 256 bit. The problem is...it was too good of a mid-range card and they figured with some tweaking they can let their cheaper card compete against the 7970 and profit, and still have the 512 bit large die ready for release by the end of this year.

So it'll be the gk104 in q1. Dual-gpu gk104 in mid to late q2. Gk110 launch in q4. Dual gpu gk110 in q1-q2 next year.

Honestly...good on them. Gk110 is a beast...but with yield issues, it'd cost them a lot more to make that than it is to make the gk104's. Just know there's hope for another card, with close to 50% increased performance over the gtx 680 at high resolutions , already designed, that will be coming this year. Can't really complain. wink.gif

Honestly unless you're running triple monitors, you don't need more than 2gb of ram. Tons of benchmarks showing 2gb vs 3gb versions of many card at 2560x1600 resolution even with 0 difference.

Also keep in mind nvidias new fxaa which will give you high level AA with a significantly reduced memory usage. Ie. for the memory cost of 2x MSAA you can get 8x FXAA. Or was it 16x. Either way. Phenomenal. That and having physx onboard make it a really good option.

Agreed... and yeah, 2GB is fine for 2560x1600 as far as I've ever seen testing done of.
