Retail GTX 680 vs. 7970 Benchmarks (i3 CPU) - Page 5

And they are about equal at 1600x900. I expect the 384 bit 7970 to pull away at higher resolutions.

Not to mention the memory size, BF3 uses between 2.5-3.0 gigs of mem at max settings.thumb.gif

That would make the 680 stutter like a broken clock.

I did benchmark my 7970 as well with the following settings:

i5 2500 @ 2x3,1 GHz, Turbo off
1st run 7970 @ 1000MHz/1425MHz
2nd run 7970 @ 925MHz/1375Mhz (Stock)
3rd run 7970 @ 1125MHz/1575MHz (1131mV)

Otherwise I used the exact same settings as ironman which is 1600x900, Extreme tess, High textures, 16x AF, 4x AA.

And a GPU-Z screenshot: GPU-z

Apparently the CPU doesn't have much influence on heaven, since the GPU load stays at 99% almost all the time.
For comparision here the supposed benchmarks of the GTX 680 http://www.overclock.net/t/1231113/gigabyte-gtx-680-2gb-already-arrive-at-my-shop/100#post_16748637

If this is all true the 7970 and the GTX 680 seem to be on par.

Nice idea but you need a closer matching machine, this thread is a bit fail

tsm's benchmarks are using dual channel...

hmm, I would have thought any memory limited portion of the test, for example if Heaven 3.0 runs physics, this would be terribad on single channel.

true, but heaven is GPU heavy only. not CPU heavy at all. Heaven 3.0 don't use physics.

How are the mins on the first run so high - 28fps, am I missing something here?

Don't know. Didn't change anything. It's probably just "luck." Think I got these low fps the the very start of heaven. Maybe there was something running in the background at the same time.

For the complainers.

One stick of 4gb ram, it was actually faster overall lol.

Ignore his overclocked runs. Regardless his runs are not a 1 for 1 comparo.
