ASUS P8P67 Boot Loop

Hi OCN,

Yesterday I was browsing the internet when my computer shut off randomly. I thought maybe it had installed some updates, but that doesn't seem to be the case. After it shutdown and turned back on, I saw a message saying "Overclocking Failed" (or something similar). I hit F1 and it took me into the BIOS. All of the settings have been un touched since probably late August when I built the computer and overclocked to 4.5ghz. Since then, I have not touched a single thing in the BIOS, or through any ASUS utility because it was stable and I was fine with 4.5.

The BIOS version that came with my MOBO was 1503, and as a last resort I just upgraded to the latest of 2303. When I turn the computer on, it shows the ASUS motherboard screen, blacks out, and then reboots. The first thing I tried was turning off the OC, and eventually returning to stock settings. Last night I let it sit with the power cable unplugged, PSU switch off, battery out, and CMOS jumper in the reset position. I had tried doing similar things for shorter times before.

Searching google I had found out about similar issues, but nothing seemed to match up very well, and those that came close had "fixes" that did not work for me. I tried disabling the PLL overvoltage. There was a PCIe power setting under an APM tab, I reset the BIOS and even upgraded it. I have never worked with motherboards very much, so I don't exactly know where else to go if I can do anything, or if I just need to contact ASUS/Newegg and ask for a replacement.

Do you have an ssd? Did you install windows on a raid setup? If so make sure you change the sata configuration to RAID or AHCI.

No SSD. No RAID, another area I don't know much about so I have not done anything like that.

It is on AHCI as well.

Hmm, sounds much like when I updated my bios and forgot to set my sata configuration back to what I had it to when I installed windows which was RAID in my case. It would just boot show and tell me everything was fine and reboot when it's about to load windows. What you could do is run a linux live cd and if it boots you would know where to look from there. Maybe your HD is dying or maybe your OS install just got corrupted somehow.

Edit: It might be more effective to try playing with the Sata mode before doing anything. Try switching it around and see if it will boot.
450

I just noticed they changed the font in the new bios. :/

I am noticing a very quick error message saying.

"Marvell 88SE91xx Adapter - BIOS Version.......
PCIe x1 5.0Gbps
Adapter 1 Disks Information: AHCI Mode
No Hard Disk is detected."

In the BIOS all of my HDs show up, and I have set the boot order to boot off of the 320gb drive, which has the OS on it.

That's the marvell controller, if you don't have any HD's plugged into the marvell ports that is fine.

No problem. I'm thinking your OS partition might have gotten corrupted. Worst case scenario you might have to reformat and reinstall windows.
