Looks like acquiring Samsung was very beneficial, unless this was on their own.

Buy a bunch of them for raid 5 arrays or for raid 10 arrays. Then just have a few a hot swaps. thumb.gif

Seriously though a lot of hard drive manufacturers have down graded the warranties on HDDs it's quite sad.

Seagate? Really!? Somehow I doubt that but anything's possible........ I wonder if the buyout never occurred would this be titled "Samsung hits 1Terabit per square inch", as they had kinda been driving the HDD technology industry with improving platter designs the last few years.

Yes, and magnetic core memory could still be in working condition after 50 years. No SSD can last that long without burning up the limited write cycles. If I wanted to, I could buy one off eBay, and read the data then decode it. Maybe there's a 50 year old credit card info on one of them? biggrin.gif

Back to the topic, it's nice to be able to get a 10TB sorage in a few years but I am not in a hurry for one. I have a 2TB and a 1TB and I'm not quite close to half full yet. I figure 3 or 4 more years before I do need more space unless there's a major WOW O-M-G GOTTA-HAVE-EM game that requires a few TB of space to install. FWIW I don't rip BD or DVD, they generally lasts a long time if I don't let any kid play with them. biggrin.gif 11 years, 1,300 DVD and only 1 went bad due to bad process with early dual layered DVD that Disney replaced for free.

edit: since when is o-m-g censored? Unless it means something other than oh my gosh, there shouldn't be a reason to *** it out.

i would prefer more if they instead improve the reliability and speed of their drives as currently hhd's have very high failure rate puke.gif

Congratulations to Seagate on this accomplishment.

On an unrelated note, I'm wearing a Seagate t-shirt right now honoring the ST506 smile.gif
