XFX 7950 double dissipation (not black edition) problems

I just built a computer yesterday with a friend with the above card and I'm having problems. I can run anything just fine, and the driver is up to date, I can't however play any games so far, (least not WoW or SWtOR)
When I try to run those games the screen freezes up in the most current used color (like a lot of brown if I'm in the desert) but the other applications are still working (I'm assuming because the music on Pandora doesn't repeat or anything)
I uninstalled the newest driver I downloaded 12.2, and I'm in the process of downloading the 101 updates you have to put on when you put on a fresh OS. If those updates aren't the problem, I don't know if it's the gpu or driver issues.

Hi et3rn47. Any idea what temperatures it is reaching when you're playing games? Is it just SWTOR and WOW or have you not played any other games?

it doesn't get hotter than 54 c, and those two games are all that I have tried (am able to so far, but I think it ran bf3 okay when my friend was helping me put it together) (i had to leave for a bit)

but would driver problems make world of warcraft and star wars the old republic not work, but battlefield play okay? (and would using a different monitor do that? the monitor im using now isn't the monitor my friend tested battlefield 3 on)
