Vista rc1 help

post #1 of 8
Thread Starter
hey installed RC1 just now (cant find RC2 now) and it installed great. fastest OS install in a while. logged in fine, only 2 drivers werent detected, my wireless, and my soundcard (7800GS was fine)
so. i have all my drivers backed up and ready, so i start with the wireless. i dont use the setup crap the cd has, i do it the old way, through device manager, and tell it where to find the drivers... this takes about 10 mins to finish loading. and poof! slow as #$!#$ task manager takes 5 mins to load up, cant close any windows, got a glimpse of my cpu usage =65% no processes (that showed up) and my mouse is SUPER laggy. so i do a hard reboot.
this is where i get confused... the green bar spins for like 10 mins (made a pot of coffee), i come back down and even it is stuttering now. i stick my hand on my BTT and, i've never felt it that warm before. so i do another hard reboot. load to last known good. same thing.

win XP still loads nicely (thank goodness)

~~~ edit
failed to mention after the install it detected me as supporting ultimate edition. which i liked... till now
anyone know whats up?
update. i did last known good again.. it worked this time after booting into xp 1st
but, it screwed up again, after installing my soundcard drivers... no lag this time, but it wouldnt boot into vista after the reboot.
im thinkin i need RC2 or, my XP drivers arent gonna cut it and need to wait until they make vista drivers for my hardware *crosses fingers... asus*
Yeah, dont install any of the drivers for Windows XP, use only the drivers sent with vista. I have a Audigy 2 ZS but am having to use onboard sound because of a lack of vista drivers (not a big deal really). Installing non-vista drivers would be a good way to invite instability (if they managed to somehow work). My wireless pci card (D-Link WDA-2320) worked w/o any driver installations. I just loaded RC1 and it automatically detected and connected to my network, no drivers needed (I guess it uses the vista wireless drivers.)
my wireless did not. nor my onboard sound, my 7800 did tho. but wireless is kind of important... not too worried about sound right away
