With a low quality PSU going out, there is bound to be damage to components.
It probably doesn't have any sort of effective power/load fault protection, or w/e it's called.

Well, i just opened the psu up and nothing looked out of place. I swear to god there was smoke and sparks from it

Feel for ya man. Had the same thing happen when I was a noob builder putting a new GTX265 into my old build. Plugged too many fans into a sing molex and the thing arced from my PSU at the bottom all the way up through my optical drive. Scrapped everything. Hopefully you can save some of your prized parts. Good luck buddy

Smoke does not always suggest damage to other hardware if the PSUs safety features kicked in or it was a capacitor that was meant for noise reduction. As long as the voltage did not swing too far from normal or the motherboard has some protection the parts could still live.
