First build having trouble with post

Thread Starter
I just completed my first build, thought i had done everything correctly. When I try to power it on to post it will come on for a moment, all lights and fans begin to turn the 1st phase Led is red and I think the others are green, but then it will eventually shut off and try and start again.

The Components are as follows
i7 2600k
ga-z68xp-ud3 mobo
gtx550 gpu
H60 cooler
tx 650 v2 psu
crucial M4 120 gb SSD
16 gigs of vengance 1600 ram

So bummed man, I thought I was doing great.....but no post. I just hope it is something I did wrong and not a boot loop.

Totally appreciate all the help, you guys are amazing.

Try booting it with just the cpu/mobo, ram, video card. See if it posts smile.gif. From there it eliminates a few things. Also, make sure no other devices are connected.

Took it back to the bare minimum, and it still wont post. I even removed the gpm and tried the onboard graphics. Am almost at a loss, I guess I could remove the h60 altogether, but I don't see how that would stop it from posting. I have been trying the ram in different combinations to see if that is the culprit. The ram is 1600 (which I think should be fine with the moho) but if it wasn't it would just automatically turn it to 13 wouldn't it?

Thanks for all the help guys I have been scouring all the similar threads from the past trying to nail it down.

Did you try it with just one stick of ram?

Yep took it back to just one stick of ram, also tried it out of the case. Took it back to nothing but the front panel pins gpu and one stick of ram, same story. When I press on it will light up for about 15 seconds, then it will shut off, wait 5 seconds and come back on again. Sometimes it will turn on and off quick, most of the time about 15 seconds.

I have been looking into the boot loop issue, and from what I have read this doesn't sound like it, most of those guys are getting a screen for the bios then it is starting a again. I don't get the screen.

Well......I can tell you this....it doesn't help your chances to breadbox but not push the one stick of ram you decide to use all the way in! Haven't tried yet but I know it will post now. So so so so stupid of me, didn't realize till I went to swap to another stick, the first stick in wasn't seated all the way that entire time!

Super happy that I don't have to deal with an RMA, a little embarrassed, but stoked.

Thanks for putting up with my retarded panic guys. You are a huge resource, great for a noob to have a place to go for advice like this.

Edit: got post smile.gif I'm probably not the first or last panicked noob you guys have seen, but that may be stupidest error in history.

Lol I did the same thing when I installed my H100. I took out my ram for more room to work with and when I put them back in I forgot to push the RAM all the way till it clicked. You aren't the only one. thumb.gif

Thanks man I appreciate knowing I am not the only one! Unintended benefit is that I am quite familiar with all my components now and that makes me a bit more comfortable. The other thing is this is the last time I will buy a non modular power supply! Even in the carbide 500r (I like the case) it is a PAIN!

Lol yeah true that. I feel like it is a must have now. Also just for the future I recommend you put your rig in your signature. thumb.gif
