SC4 was fairly buggy and crashed often. Last great SimCity game was 2000.

We shall see if EA ruins this IP further.

Looks interesting, but when they say "engine" it makes me think graphics, but the narrator specifically says this isn't to show off graphics.

That being said, I think its interesting to hear how things work behind the shiny polish that is the game and its interface.

^Yeah, this is more about all the calculations going on under the hood than graphics. Though that is controlled by the engine too, hearing "showing off game engine" does make you think it will be a graphical oriented demo. From the way it looks, let's just hope it will be multi-threaded as far as CPU goes. It sounds like it is going to be a huge CPU drain with all those simulations/calculations going on. Not that our modern CPU's can't handle that kind of load, if the engine handles mult-threading well.

I'm very excited about this, graphics be damned. I'd like nice and updated graphics, but for a game like this, it is all about under the hood improvements and game play for me. I always think of the massive difference in MS's Flight Sims going from FS9(single threaded), to FSX(massively multi-threaded) and what a difference it made in terms of overall performance.

I'm curious what requirements will be given the way they say the game will work.

They have indicated that stuff like traffic, demand, construction, and all the other results of what happens to the city as a result of it's people and your policies will be directly generated from these agents that represent the citizens. The narrator comments that the simulator can support tens of thousands of agents and the simulation scales to the number of agents. With these comments, it looks like this could be a fairly demanding game. I wondered about this because I noticed that their machine running the demo appeared to be having difficulty keeping a steady framerate even with the unfinished graphics.

I'm guessing the game will have multi-threading at minimum; but, with the number crunching it looks like the game will be doing on all those agents, I wonder if we will see GPU compute used to do some of the workload.

Edit: and of course the poster above me beat me to the same point while I was writing this. I do wonder this will be the third game after supreme commander and Homeworld (oddly enough, despite it's age, it's fully multi-threaded) to make full use of my hex core cpu.

I can't describe how excited I am for this game. I hope they keep the complexity and detail. Hours will be lost determining the optimal density of schools/stations/parks. Day one for me as well, can't resist. Hope it doesn't drop when I should be doing something else with my free time. No weddings friends!!!
