GTX 460 SLI or something new

Thread Starter
Hey Everyone,

I currently have an Asus eng DCII GTX 460, newegg has the Evga super clocked 460 on sale right now. Would it be worth it to grab one and go sli or try to sell my asus for something else.

If something else would be be about the same as 2 460s in sli.

Thanks!

You would have to be careful to avoid the GTX 460 1GB 192-bit which would be incompatible with what you likely have which is the GTX 460 1GB 256-bit. It's pretty hard to find the 256-bit now. Based on your budget you could get a 7950, 580, 7970 or the 680 coming out this week which should all be faster than 460 SLI when overclocked. You should be able to see your current card for about $100.

Where would be the best place to sell a card besides on here? I have been trying to gain more rep like crazy the last few months but no one reps anymore. thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

Also, my budget isn't very large right now, what is the best sub 250 option in your opinion?

no one reps anymore? I see a lot of people that get rep, I have no problems getting any anyway. Best places to sell cards are on Craigslist or ebay really, can't think of any other places of the top of my head. Couple quick questions.

What resolution do you game at? If you're not going over 1920x1080, I should think you'll be just fine with SLI 460s. They will certainly be cheaper than any other option, and 1GB is really quite alright for most games.

Also, sub-250 before selling your card or sub-250 after selling your card? If you're talking about 250 limit before selling your card, you could easily get 100 for your card and your budget becomes 350, in which case I would save up a bit more and grab a 580 smile.gif If you're talking about 250 after selling your card, I would go with a 560Ti perhaps, or if you can get the deal on newegg they've been having sales on 480s for right around 250.

560ti would not be a smart upgrade from a 460. I would look for a 580 which is just outside your budget, or just another 460 for SLI. This one is what I believe would work with your card but check in GPU-z to verify what memory size and memory bus width your card is and get one with the same. Like for example the card I linked is a 1GB 256-bit so it can only SLI with another 1GB 256-bit not a 1Gb 192-bit or a 768MB 192-bit.

I was thinking along the same line, a 560TI would not be a huge upgrade. My card is a 256 bit 1 Gb 460 and I think I will go ahead and go SLI.

Another option would be to water cool my CPU instead of getting a new GPU. The RASA kits have been grabbing my attention lately, I could get a better O.C with that and maybe sell my H60 then go SLI also.

IDK just thinking now, decisions decisions.thinking.gif

Just an FYI, I have a pair of 768MB 460's in SLI and they run fantastic. I run them on a 1920x1080 reso too and I really only have minor hitches with demanding games that eat VRAM alive with huge environments. However every game runs smooth. SLI runs great for me, always has.

It would be cheaper to go SLI since you already have one 460. You could probably get another for $130 or less. I got my 2nd 460 for $110 a few weeks ago and it is the smaller brother of the 1GB variant. Nearly GTX570 performance for less than $250 if you shop smart. smile.gif
