No it is not exactly the same. Nvidia is winning this time with a GPU that consume less power, and has smaller die size.

Edit: found the link Nvidia GTX 680 price now set at $499

And if that is true, then the 680 will be the king on both ends. thumb.gif

Hopefully AMD will lower the 7970 prices.

Interesting. I am waiting for other reviews and I would like to see how things pan out over the next few weeks / months, but so far it looks like I might be going nVidia for my next card (I seem to alternate with each new card). I'm sure AMD will answer this with price drops and / or a higher clocked refresh, either way this is going to be good for competition, in which case we all win.

Shame about the compute performance though, I would like a card that it good at gaming and BOINC but no reviews seems to include PPD... tongue.gif

Oh and guys, no need to quote bad posts or even mention that you reported them, simply report and move on. Quoting them just makes more work for the mods who then have to clean your post too.

Those compute figures are for OpenCL. We have yet to see how CUDA-enabled computations perform. I'm looking forward to seeing the F@H performance on these bad boys.

So do those "average power use figures" mean I could get away with using my trusty old Corsair 520HX to power a GTX680 along with my 2600K at 4.5 ghz???

I was going to go with a 7870, but if this card is actually released at $500 I´d rather have that.

We still need to wait for max OC headroom though, and how much AMD cuts prices on HD 7XXX, would definitely go for a nice HD7870 overclocked at about $250.

When this comes out, if its at $499 it'll drop the price of the 7970 like a rock. I wouldn't be surprised either if 1st day, everything gets sold out, especially on newegg.

Wonder what will happen to the price of the 580. I wonder if it'll drop much more...hmmm

Looks like it actually can now run metro2033 and crysis smoothly? lol

It is risky, but it's also true that the HD 7970 overclocks well, so the same can be said about an HD 7970 Superclocked and 6 GB of VRAM. I think this is going to be very interesting. AMD signaled that they are not kidding this time when they adopted a 384-bit memory bus.

This cars is winner in all fronts cool.gif. I can only dream to have enough money to buy one. The new TXAA looks very interesting, hopefully it will come for Fermi cards too. AMD fanboys must be busy inventing reasons why GTX 680 sucks before final reviews will come online. When Fermi was launched perf/watt was suddenly the most important reason to buy AMD card, now Nvidia is the new king in that area. 7970 is still good card but AMD must have significant price cuts if the 499$ launch price for 680 is true.

Lol, this.

That is a feat and a half in its own right...

I can't see why you couldn't run it. It's coming in at fairly substantially lower TDP then the previous generation or even lower than the 7970 (off one review at least). Running a single GPU card on a 500+ psu is more than ok.
