[Tom's] GeForce GTX 680 Review (links/pics of all the graphs) - Page 14

AMD will have to drop the prices... otherwise most will defect to the 680. Even with the price drop, it'll be three 680's for me, then two 690's, then 4 780's. thumb.gif

This is weird. The 7970 looks like a midrange card in everything but Metro and Crysis? I had no doubt that the 680 would rock, but with these graphs I was surprised by how slow the 7970 looks. Odd. Most of tom's stats show the 7970 scaling to be at best 74% of a 6990 and other sites like TPU have it at 85%. Weird? Kepler on the other hand is at 90% to 100%. I don't get these numbers.

Yeah I just read that. I hope it's true! If so, then I just might have to pick up one of these suckers. thumb.gif

For all we know, these things could be OC'ing themselves to 1100Mhz on the core or some random number depending on the game/load/tdp. While this would still be considered "stock", it could also mean that when properly OC'ed, it may not increase in performance as much as the 7970 does, since the 680 is already being "overclocked". Leaving not as much headroom when max oc'ed. We know for a fact that these things overclock themselves, we just don't know by how much on any given situation. It could be only 50Mhz, meaning this card is indeed a beast, or it could be 200Mhz on some of the games, possibly leaving only a little headroom for max OC'ing. If people don't understand this, they are blinded. I am by no means a loyalists, just look at my other rigs(I own more Nvidia than AMD). Just want a clearer picture of how things are working under the hood. Everyone should feel the same way and wait for the full details.

pretty much agree with this. looks great though. this card has renewed my interest in purchasing a 28nm gpu.

Regardless, the OC headroom on the 680s may not be great, and we shall see...

Either way, not many people will be able to beat my 3 OC'd 7970s with my 3930k tongue.gif

I'm really excited to see this new generation of video card battle unfold! I'm going to be glued to the benchmarks section for the next couple of months!

My main issue is, do I go with a crappy reference 680 or do I get a 7970 Lightning which is available now. I'm sure it'll be at least a couple of months before MSI releases a 680 Lightning....
Impressive, to think that this started out as a midrange part blinksmiley.gif

I'm thinking of TRI SLI with Nvidia Surround, i'm curious if the 256Bit interface will hold up well in high vram enviroments. Hmm...

Yeah, VRAM may end up being an issue with these cards in super-high resolutions. I can't wait for a 4GB 680 Lightning but that will probably be months from now....
Looks like 680 will be mine. Chuck on a third-party cooler and I'm laughing. Ideallt AMD will drop the 7970 to less than $400. Just for me. wink.gif
