Don't upgrade..
It's an upgrade, not a huge one, but it's an upgrade you'll notice. The increased cache amounts, and the improved memory controller will help significantly. However, unless it's a real bargain, saving up and going Intel will provide much more improvement.

For gaming it will provide a nice boost. Overclocking will be substantially better. For day-to-day tasks you won't notice a difference. Grab one while you can.

I'd say only if you're already getting lower performance then you want, or you live near a MicroCenter.

But as far as AMD is concerned, that is the processor to have.

i would go with Red and Pao's recommendation.

another option would be to keep your cpu and get a 6870 or 7850 depending on your budget. sell your 5830. it should go for $80.

i had the 5830 and i was getting P3900 for 3DMk11 and P16500 for Vantage with the 960T (unlocked though). run those benches and compare, then decide if it is worth it.

if you decide to buy the 960T - do not expect for it to unlock. like Reds said, they might be gone soon.

EDIT: that TX will not handle an unlocked 960T, especially overclocked. and your mobo is better than mine btw.thumb.gif

So...I ordered it. Was on the fence a bit but decided just to go for it. It's an upgrade after all and if I'm lucky I'll be able to unlock it. Not expecting to be able to though. I've wanted this cpu for a while so I'm glad I decided to get it. Wish me luck!

Overclock it... I got mine to 4.15 Ghz and the NB to 3.1 Ghz! It was a HUGE improvement over my old Athlon II x3 OC'd to 3.5 Ghz.

I know the feeling! I hadn't even planned on buying it last night but I was sitting at the check out page with every intention of cancelling the order and just decided to hit submit instead..haha...I'm glad I finally bought it though. Although I'm sure my room mates are gonna give me hell for it. Any time I buy a new component they call me an idiot etc and say I'm wasting my money. Oh well!

Edit: 100th post! haha
