Only rumors as far as I know. Supposedly it's meant to be a hard launch with all the normal AIBs selling cards. We already know that retailers are listing them and seeing the gigabyte card etc. a day or two back pretty much confirms that we shouldn't have to wait long after NDA lift. But still, no oifficial confirmation iirc.

Damn. I just saw the review of the MSI 7970 Lightning. I'm wondering if this is enough to make me wait for the 680 Lightning rolleyes.gif

Are Lightning editions easy enough to get in SLI or do they need a lot of space between their PCIe slots?

the reviews for the 7970 lightning have been saying that since it has that power core thing on the back, it is more difficult to xfire than before. unless you have really spaced out pci-e slots, you might have that to worry about. aside from that, i don't think it would be any different.

i also don't think the 680 will be $500 at release. i can easily see it being marked up to $550 or more.

You want a gap minimum for lightning cards. My current lightnings have 5 degree temperature difference even with a gap in the spacing.

They are two slot cards but you have to pay close attention to the fan design. Any raised fan and it will take up the lower PCIe slot.

Example is the Sapphire 7970 non-reference card a two slot card except the fan design is a little lower and therefore actually taking up another PCIe space forcing you to go even one lower. They may have just called it the DCII.

The Lightnings fan design does not do this and maintains the specs of a 2 slot card. In essence you can sandwich two together. smile.gif

The GTX 680 Lightning is going to be an awesome card as well. Expect the same quality.

You have them in the top 2 slots?
