should i get a GTX 570 or 580?

Im currently running a radeon HD6870 in my rig and though it plays games well, i am disappointed with its FAH performance and the load it puts on the CPU compared to the nvidia cards. FYI, I do some gaming but nothing too crazy, mainly skyrim, starcraft 2 and soon diablo 3 on 2 monitors, one 22" @ 1680x1050 and a 24" vertical at 1200x1920. im sure both of these card would have no issues playing these games on my 2 monitors but my question is, is it really worth the extra $100 for the 580? i want good over all performance for the games as well as good PPD from the GPU. also, is there a specific brand that is better or ones that i should look out for? i had a set of 8800s in my last computer that were EVGA and they worked great but i wouldn't be opposed to trying something else. thanks again for all the help everyone.

Wait for Kelper it's only 2 - 3 days away, at the rumored $499 price point it will be much better than the 580.
Personally, I went with a GTX570, simply because the performance per dollar was much higher. With good overclocking you can get the close to the performance of a GTX 580 as well.

I had a TFIII PE/OC GTX 570 and loved the overclock and cooling, but the fan sound got to me. At high fan it was almost like a whining noise, but the performance was pretty awesome.

Seeing as you are going to be folding, I would suggest getting a non-reference card to run 24/7. Most of the cards have aftermarket coolers and better VRMS. If you don't plan on SLI in the future the Asus DC II is also a good choice, but if fan noise doesn't bother you, go with a TFIII or other high end non ref. GTX570.

Waiting for Kepler is a good idea no matter what, because even getting a GTX 570/580 the prices will surely drop, and the used market will be flooded with nvidia cards.

I would wait for kepler to come out and watch the prices drop even more on last generations cards thumb.gif . Then snag a 580-570 for cheap.

i will probably wait a little bit to see if the prices drop a little more or wait for some used ones. the 680 looks awesome but even at $500 its a little out of my current price range. i like a lot of the non ref. card with the big coolers but noise issues are a big thing for me so i would have to find one that doesn't kill the ears while gaming. while folding isnt that big a deal because i usually am not around.

Prices have already dropped as it is - GTX 580s can be had for around $400 and GTX 570s are $300
I wouldn't expect any further drops in price until lower-tier and/or refresh cards are released after the 680.

The TF III would be a good choice then, I never noticed it while gaming, only while folding.

EVGA lifetime warranty no reason to get any other card thumb.gif

I know it totally sounds like some Big Green fanboy bullcrap but seriously, there is really NO reason not to get an EVGA GPU.

You can get a 580 for $370 on newegg. Galaxy but still dang cheap. I think I saw a 570 for $250 on newegg...

Wait for Kepler and wait and see if the 580 will drop in price even more. I've got my eye on either a 580 or kepler. Not really interested in a 570, its not that much better performance and with all the problems with the VRM's, no way I'll mess with that.

I know, I can hardly wait. But I'm sure 580's will go on sale on newegg or even shell shocker when kepler cards come out, maybe get one around ~$325. thumb.gif
