LED INTERIOR LIGHTING SWITCH

Thread Starter
hey guys at OCN. i have a thermaltake case and it has led lights in the inside and a few cold cathodes. they are all connected by usb and my idea is that if i use the case intrusion detector (which tells the motherboard if the case has been opened) to turn on a set of lights when i open the case. here is my idea, when case is closed green leds will be on along with a green cold cathode, when case is open the green leds will be on along with the cold cathode and my bright white led lights so that i can look inside with more light. the reason i dont want all of them always running is that my case looks really good with just green and the white wrecks it, but the green alone does not light the interior very well so when i open it i want all of them. so to sum it up is there any way to use the case intrusion detector to control usb power? also i have a dfi lanparty nf4 and i have no clue where to plug the case intrusion detector into, the connector says micro sw if that helps, is the a jumper or something?

I can't help with the USB powered lighting control, but I do know it might be easier to put a switch inside the case for the white lights and just flick them on when you open up tongue.gif

i believe the intrusion sensor is just a switch. i think it is turned off when depressed. if so,
what i would do is put the ccfls you want onto a separate usb power cord with the switch wired in between. for usb cords the red is +5v and black is ground. you can put the switch on either wire.

if instead the switch is turned on when depressed, then it is more complicated and im not sure what the best way to do it is

i made a beautiful schematic for you

I'm not really sure what lighting behavior the OP is looking for; otherwise I could make some suggestions. And I'm confused by the OP saying the CCFLs are USB powered as this is typically not the case (Molex is the defacto standard).

So do you want them to come on when you open the case then turn off when you cloase the case? Also, do you want them to also turn on/off when the PC is off?

all of those were correct i want them to come on when i open the case and turn off when i close the case, it would be nice if they would do the same as the computer is turned off because it would be easier to work on the computer but if thats not possible then i just want them to turn on when i open the case and turn off when i close it
