just installed x850 pro getting error

Thread Starter
hey, ive beena lurker for a while and i have got some great info here. thanks guys. never really had to post till now but i think i will more often.

anyway, i just installed an ati radeo x850 pro agp card on an abit nf7-s mobo. im trying to get a little life out of this board still.

i installed the latest catalyst drivers and latest directx.

i was playing scarface fine on my old radeon 8500 but it was slow so i had to upgrade.

after about 30 seconds or so of play on the new card the game freezes and turns to a black screen.

i get the ati vpu recovery message that tells me it changed my settings and i need to restart. i tried restarting then playing again but i got the same problem. this time i hit cancel instead of restarting and i get a directx error. the error reads:

DirextX Error

D3DERR_INVALIDCALL
Coder: 2156, dacility: 2166, severity: 1

i just reinstalled directx and i am about to try omega drivers.

anyone know whats going on here??? this is frustrating me.

THANKS IN ADVANCE TO ANYONE WHO CAN HELP ME I REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

Did you uninstall drivers, then run drivercleaner pro, and re-install them?

Oh, and you did connect the power connector on the X850?

I have the X850, sorta Mines a X850 XT Platinum Edition.

If you've done everything correctly all I can think to do is reinstall the drivers.

If BF2 doesn't run. Go into My Documents\\Battlefield 2\\Profiles, Delete your profiles. Then run BF2.

bf2 shut down right after the map loaded.

each time a game shuts down my screen res gets reset to 1024x768 and the graphics slow down dramitcally just browsing windows. after i restart things go back to normal. im not sure what else to try. do you think uninstaling and reinstalling the game will make a difference.

im going to uninstall everything, chipset drivers, graphics driver, directx, games and try to get this going. this is really pissing me off. could there be a problem with the card or is this def my environment?

Or you could reformat & install.

see attached image...

could it be my old psu?

i have 2 wd250 sata150 drives and a wd80 ide attached. nec dvd/r. 6 fans. themaltake volcano 12 hsf. am i drawing too much power?

is there a way i can check if the card has a power failure?

looking at mobo monitor
+12 bounces from 11.92v - 11.98v
-12 stays steady at -12.03v

reformatting will be my next move unless the unistall works or if its the psu.
