reformatting will be my next move unless the unistall works or if its the psu.
It's your PSU. Get a new one.

Ok, think we foiund the culprit. 12A on the 12V rail is by far NOT enough for that card. When you go into 3D mode, the card draws too much current, resulting in failure.

You'll need a new PSU, with at least 25A on the 12V rail(s).

I like this one for you:
FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX450-PN, 12cm FAN, version 2.0, 2 SATA, PCI Express, 450W $48.99 + $7.64 shipping

If you have ATI tool run it and see what happens.

**** YES! Get rid of that PSU before it blows somethign up on you...lol.

12A on the 12v rail? OMG! Thta's one of the lowest rated PSUs I've ever heard of. Plus it's not even a quality unit...it's 12A on a junky supply...AKA maybe 8 or 10 amps...lol.

That thing is the reason.

Thread Starter
thanks, i had a feeling that might have been the problem.

atitool basically breaks when scanning for artifacts once the temp gets close to 80. i didnt let it run that long when i first installed the card.

thats what i get for staying out of the pc gaming/graphics loop for a few years.

thanks for the help everyone

if you cant buy a new PSU the coming days and still want to game you can also disconnect an HD and some fans. That way your card gets enough juice even tough your PSU isnt good enough.

Just wanted to let you know, ive survived for a month that way

As said that PSU is way to weak for that card and most components of today anyway mate. Upgrade to a PSU of atleast 500 Watt with a total of around 35-40 Amps on the 12v rail.
That's a bit overkill for his rig right now (and I don't see him upgrading any time soon, so by the time he does, he'll need more power than 35A-40A).

I think a good 400W-450W unit with at least 25A will do fine. The FSP 450W unit is high quality and plenty powerful for your rig.

I have a 450watt Asus A-45GA with 2 V12 rails of 14A each. Its was enough for my old P4 2,4Ghz setup and still is enough for my Core 2 Duo setup I have running now.

Like Chozart said: A 450watt PSU with around 25A is fine indeed.
