Thanks for the insight guys, the FSP 450w psu that Chozart recommended is already on it's way from newegg. It will be here tomorrow.

my rig is a little old, i plan on building a new one within the next year or so but this will do for now. I think this powersupply will be just fine with

I just bought the x850 pro and a Viewsonic VX922 to go along with this,

ABIT NF7-S
AMD AthlonXP 2500+ Barton
1GB Corsair DDR400 DC
2 WD250 SATA150

not that new but not that bad, really the only crap part i had was psu

Good buy.

They aren't the best power supplies. But considering your situation you should be good until you upgrade .

before i installed the new psu i unplugged everything except the hd i needed and the vid card. i played scarface for about 4 hours with no problems.

the next day i got the psu, installed it, and hooked everything back up and tested the game again. the game worked for a little then crapped out again. so i tried lowering to clock speeds to around 300 for each. the game worked fine for about 3 hours then crashed. after i restarted windows loaded then went to a white screen. after multiple restarts i kept getting the white screen so i booted up liunx and that worked fine, so i burnt some important files and reformatted my windows partition.

i just finished installing drivers/updates/programs etc. loaded up scarface with clock speeds at 350 to be safe. game crashed after 2 mins, restart, and now im back at the white screen. im posting from another computer because i cant get into windows.

anyone know whats going on here? does the card need more power still? is it the clock settings? please help. thanks

i think the white screens were from the clock speeds i was using with ati tool. i noticed that the screen would go white when i loaded it. i just unistalled atitool and i will try playing agian now. i think it will crash still though, well see.

Strange stuff going on with your rig.

With the "unplug everything trick" I posted it works fine for about 4 hours? But not with the new PSU?

You have a X850Pro right? Why are you talking about 350mhz clock speeds then? Maybe you shouldnt mess with those untill you are 100% sure your machine works fine. So after a fresh windows installation (updated and all of course) just try to install the latest catalyst driver. No atitool and stuff just the driver.
Then install some games, not only scarface, and play and see what happens. Maybe it is scarface that is acting up.

For 3D gaming stability testing I use 3dmark2001SE. Its old but its the only free version of 3Dmark that allows you to loop the benchmark. Just loop it and leave it running for a day or so. If it makes it past 6 hours you can be pretty sure your system is stable. To further check run Memtest or Prime95.

So dont OC and change things until you are sure you are stable
Hope this helps you a bit

Meep, I only have 19A on my 12V >.<
Also, how do I check how many rails I have?

It's been running my sig rig just fine for quite a while now with no problems at all, well besides Oblivion crashing sometimes while loading new areas...
