Can you suggest some Mechanical Keyboard Please?

So I'm thinking about diving in and grabbing a mechanical keyboard, but I'm exceedingly picky about my board. I'm looking for a little help as I've not yet found anything that suits my fancy....

The switches I beleive I would like would be the Cherry Brown or even the Cherry Red. I've chosen these two for the low activation point, and ruled out blue due to the issues with using that switch when trying to double tap. I believe overall I would prefer a linear switch as to my knowledge that is a quieter switch (correct?) - but I can also add O rings too if the reds are too loud for my tastes.

I would also like the board to have each individual key lit as I'd like to replace a couple keys with some clear caps. Saw a couple picts from other peopel who have done this and it looks pretty cool. Colour must be blue though....

the hardest part is also the multimedia controls. I would love to have a volumn control on the top right of the keyboard. I just shelved my G510 because I hated the feel of those keys, but I was in love with the volume control. I hate going for the headphones volume control and the speakers volume is on the speaker itself which sits behind the monitor. Hard to adjust on the fly.

NKRO should be standard at this point.

I don't care about headphonee jacks on the board nor USB ports

Use will be for gaming and coding but gaming 75% of the time

I've looked around at what I think are the "big" names but not found anything yet so I'm hoping there are a lot of other brands that I'm ignorant of (like Ducky? Filco? I don't know these brands at all)

Thanks!!

I'm thinking about getting a Das Ultimate. I really like the clicky sound and feel, others don't as much. Only issue is the actuation point is above the reset point, so you have to let the key come all the way up before you push it down again. Thats really it though, everything else looks nice.

So,

I just got this today, so have not had time to play with it ( Which is killing me, I am at work ). But I plugged it in and the backlighting looks really good and even across the keyboard. Keys feel solid. Can let you know more tomorrow on what it actually feels like and post a pic of the custom backlight colors.

May be one to look at as I think it meets all your criteria..

Max Keyboard Nighthawk X8/X9. Only diff is X8 is mx browns, X9 is mx reds and LED colors.

I ordered the semi-custom which allowed me to specify different LED colors for WASD, ESC, and arrow keys. Default is all blue LEDs on the X8 which I ordered, backlight default is all red on the X9 I believe.

It does have media keys, but it's not a separate button. I think it is a fn key combo so that may be the only thing not exactly what you are looking for.

Cable is nice braided, gold plugs. Seems really solid.

Here is a link

Also, hint if you decide to buy it, like them on Facebook for a 10% off code.

Yah I've definitely looked at the BW Ultimate Stealth, but the price is a bit of a kick in the junk. I don't mind paying for quality but I've heard a bit of a disproportionate bit of negative comments concerning their quality. - that said I've seen a teardown of the BW Ultimate which had nothing but good things to say about it's build.

I actually had a BW Ultimate picked out but had to cancel the order when I realized it was the BF3 edition and the LEDs were stuck to being orange (yuck). Price was awesome though because it was 99$ and included a Razer Spectre Mouse too.

The Nighthawk looks cool too but not the kind of multimedia keys I'm looking for. The volume control on the G510 is (IMO) the best. Excellently designed for jsut a quick rollever with your thumb or whatever. I've not tried any boards with a volume dial so I'm not sure if it would be the same - I'm thinking Sidewinder here.

Thanks for the suggestions thus far!!

Corsair k90 matches what you want perfectly basically. It has an especially nice volume control built onto the board.

Have you ever thought about binding volume controls to your mouse?

Seems more intuitive than the keyboard anyways, you don't have to stop fragging that way biggrin.gif

Yah I did that once but it kept messing me up when I would surf and inadvertently mute or worse blast the music when I went to scroll down a page

Looking at some more reviews on the K90 looks good

Was that deal from MemoryExpress? tongue.gif I was looking at that deal too and decided against it because of the orange LEDS too...

Anyways, I ended up dishing out the extra money for the BlackWidow Ultimate regular edition anyways... it might be a little bit pricey, but it had everything I wanted, and when you are using a keyboard, it's all about feel, I don't really mind spending extra money if the keyboard feels right for me and works, even if it isn't the best bang for the buck.

Yes it was the memory express deal. I was planning on selling the mouse to offset the cost a bit too. Just a read a boatload of K90 reviews and bit the bullet. I agree with their cost curing rubber domes on the F keys but as a programmer I do use the End Home and Delete keys a decent bit but that's really the biggest down side

I am interested to see how bright the LEDs are and what it looks like with no shroud too.

Aesthetically I would have liked to seen them extend the aluminum under the G keys but when it arrives I'll be able to give it a real testing

Thanks everyone for their inputs!!
