ASUS K53TA-BBR6 vs. lenovo Z570

Thread Starter
Hi, I am going back to college this fall and I need a laptop. Specifically one that is reliable and decently fast (doesn't need to play top-end games, but some mid-tier would be great).

I've noticed these two on newegg:

ASUS K53TA-BBR6 $409.99

lenovo Z570 $399.99

I like Asus products, and have more than a few in my gaming rig, but I have no idea on their laptop quality. Same goes for lenovo, or most any brand for that matter biggrin.gif

Are either of these great deals? Which one is better? And if they're not/are, should I wait for better ones?

Thank you in advance for your time smile.gif

EDIT: As per Sticky, I may as well add these questions:
Quote:
What is your maximum budget?
Preferably less than $500

What country are you in?
United States

What will be the uses of this laptop?
Basic College needs and light gaming

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?
As long as it's not Toshiba (Very bad experiences with them) I am all for anything

What screen size do you require?
Any

What screen resolution do you require?
Any

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay?
Just not Used

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet)\
At least 4-5 hours hopefully

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings?
Hmm, a good example would be Mount & Blade: Warband I suppose. Medium to Low settings

What operating system do you need? (if any)
Windows 7

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.)
No

How much hard drive space do you need?
>500GB

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.)
Not that I am aware of

Is there anything else we need to know?
I have a cold tongue.gif

They're both fine. Asus K53TA is better for gaming. Neither should be considered if you can wait about 2 months to get a new laptop... Ivy Bridge/ 28nm Nvidia 600M/ 28nm AMD 7000M all should be out within the timeframe. Die shrink on graphics AND CPU = throw out the old laptop! Seriously.

Lol, I bought the Lenovo. I see when the op was and at that time it was 399.99 with a 15% rebate. It has since gone up to 439.99 plus rebate. I live in NJ so i have to pay tax, but with free shipping came out to 400.17. I'm still waiting for it to arrive. I will eventually install a 128G ssd and 8Gb or low voltage memory. Both should help with battery and make things a bit faster. I'm also looking for the processors that i can install to make it better when i tire of the i3. All and all seems like a nice buy.

As much as i dont want an amd cpu, I might have to stick with the asus. I ordered the laptop on thursday morning and the order is still in verification. They have billed me, but there isnt any shipping info as yet. It says up to 2 days for verification, but in my experience with the egg, if it doesnt ship the same day you may not get it at all. It would be nicer if the amd was faster than 1.4Ghz though.

They overclock and undervolt very well. It can easily do 2.4GHz.
