Upgrading CPU cooler - Page 2

Mine came with backplates for both AMD and Intel sockets I forget specific models but its certainly AM3 and whatever i series uses.

If it didn't have it I'd be horrified. The weight is surprising, especially that its basically hanging at a 90° angle...

Thankfully I didn't have any bending or warping and my mobo secures to the case right around the CPU so I have no issues. Just be sure that your mobo is sufficiently thick for some of the heavier coolers.

True Spirit 120, or TS-140 if it'll fit. Or HR-02 Macho. Imo, in that price bracket. Also I hear good things about the Enermax something-or-other, but mostly from the crazy thread about it.

Both are outperformed by the less-costly 212 EVO - which is outperformed by the even less costly Enermax ETS T-40 T.B. Silence at lower noise.  That for $34 shipped would be a great choice.

Although in your price range of $40-50, everything is outperformed by the Scythe Mugen SCMG-3000

Thanks a lot for the input. biggrin.gif So with the 212 EVO and the Scythe Mugen SCMG-3000, which one is gonna be best for ocing and going to be able to fit in my case along with will it clear my ram? I have the G.Skill brand with some what tall heat spreader. Again thanks for your help. thumb.gif

I would just get the Corsair H60 for 52 bucks free ship at Tigerdirect

it is super easy to put it on an AMD processor compared to how the H50 was.

Thanks for the input, I took a look at the H60 and it looks great, but for the moment, I am looking for an air cooler, not looking to upgrade to a water cooler as of yet. biggrin.gif
