Complete Beginner i7 920 Overclocking tips

Thread Starter
It's currently OC at 3.40GHz (already OC when i inherited it) with a pretty basic CPU air cooler & is relatively stable, however I do experience spontaneous reboots when playing any recent 3D game, I am reliably informed though that this is almost certainly due to a crappy PSU that isn't up to the task (see my recent post in the general thread)
I have a Noctua NH-D14 that is waiting to be installed as soon as I order a new PSU & would consider more/better fans if this would help (temps are currently not too bad though).. I have a vague understanding of overclocking but ideally need a step by step, those I've seen elsewhere are a bit old & don't really explain much as they go (especially from an absolute beginners perspective)

Thanks.
