There are licensing costs that have led to the absence of free Blu-ray software, but VLC is working on it, I believe. There are also programs you can use to rip the disc to your hard drive, which removes the protection.

I'd recommend VLC if you're looking for a free player although I can't say I know just how good their blu-ray support is right now.

If you're content with a slightly more technical approach AnyDVD HD will remove all protection from a bluray on the fly and allow you to open the files with most media players, including WM
. The downside with that is that it lacks menu support.
It does remove region coding and is very well supported with all protections though, including region support.

Otherwise PowerDVD and WinDVD both have trial versions available.
Of the two I found PowerDVD to be the better. Less fussy and the Android & iPhone remote apps are a great feature when you're watching a film and don't have the keyboard in front you.
