Ehh that update was not as encouraging as I expected. The basis for the whole thread is guaranteed 100Hz, so if that isn't provided, we would just continue buying as we are now.
Seems like alot of dialogue over nothing if they don't want to be held by that.

hopefully we can hear back soon. cash on hand waiting on results while they are raising prices on the other models already.

you got to figure, currently there are 279,053 views on the original posting about these monitors. I bet 5% of that population viewing these posts have been lurking and waiting to buy. 279,053 views (original post) and 12160 views for this post, minimum 5% of those viewers has to amount to more than 1000+ buys if the item is right.

So we are all clear (and really the thread title needs to be changed) there will be NO GUARANTEED 100HZ MONITOR.  They will come from the factory (assuming they do at all) set at 60hz - the standard refresh rate for these PCBs.  Now we know a particular mix of PCBs will get us to 100hz (and above - new record of 105hz off a Radeon 6970 posted in the Catleap Club).  I still am unsure if these will truly be Catleaps as my Witech contact, the Catleap manufacturer, has no clue about this (could be left hand/right hand?  Maybe.)

Worst case is these are "no names" using the same LG panels and sourced PCBs.  However, you OC it and break it - live with it.

That is why I continue to work on getting the PCBs sourced or reverse-engineered by now a dozen Chinese PCB manufacturers.  First one to get us some (or make it ) wins our dough!  I think it is important that we get the parts ourselves since we have no idea what running these boards at 100hz will do to them (or the panels themselves - the panels are easy to source.)

I don't mean to be a downer here at all so please don't read it this way.  The OP and I have been working together with the eBay contact to get the right parts for a monitor, I am just not convinced at this point.  However, it is S. Korea using Chinese parts to special make a monitor - that is easy to source with the right number of buyers.

One way or another we will get these bad boys to 100hz and beyond!  I'm on a mission damnit!  devil.gif

Well, it is guarenteed the PCB, which is capable of 120hz. the panel is build for 60hz but will function at higher refresh-rates.
It is basicly the 2B version.

I think the powersupply is rated 110-230v if im correct. wich means you only need an adaptor, not a voltage converter!

I understand your concern, but unless he is lying directly, this is Yamakasi. and why would he? smile.gif
About the guarantee, he knows about the PCB's, he know how they were in 2B and how they are in 2C, he also knows that 2B were to expencive in the making. thats why they changed the PCB in 2C.

The guarantee will be, you get the same PCB as in the 2B monitors. which allows you to push your refresh rate to about ~100

Edit: I also got 2 monitors beeing shipped to me atm. so im also interested in finding the right PCB's.
and take the same risk, as you would do with this monitor, and the 2B monitor. This will most likely shorten lifespan! but, if the monitor has sleep enabled ~10min, that might counter prolong it smile.gif

Are you running yours constant at ~100?

People shouldn't necessarily assume that running these monitors at a higher refresh rate is going to be so catastrophically detrimental to their lifespan - it's not like we're overvolting them or anything, so the stress on the components should be fairly similar. If you overclock a CPU and don't boost the voltage and make sure the cooling keeps the temperatures around the same, it doesn't really reduce the lifespan in any measurable way; why should we assume differently here?

Alright, got my answer from AMD:

Thank you for contacting AMD

I understand that you asking are the AMD Radeon HD cards capable of outputting 2560x1440 resolution at 120Hz refresh rate via the DisplayPort connection (or DL-DVI)? From a hardware point of view at least, because the drivers have this locked to ~85Hz I believe. A lot of argument has been over the pixel clock limit.

Also, it would be incredibly appreciated if the drivers could be changed to remove this 85Hz limitation or at least a way to get past it.

If I missed any information about your issue please let me know, as my suggestions may change.

Any of our HD5000 series or higher cards is capable of outputting 2560X1440 resolution at 120Hz Refresh rate but has to be one with a dual link DVI connection or native DP output, and also the display has to provide the resolution and refresh rate as supported for it to be available for selection.

I believe since Catalyst 10.X or after as long as the display supported 120Hz, the selection was available. The reason people are seeing 85Hz is because their display isn’t supporting 120Hz.

In order to update this service request, please respond, leaving the service request reference intact.

Best regards,

AMD Global Customer Care

So, from the horse's mouth, 120HZ @ 1440P is completely possible even over DL-DVI. Any more questions to ask?

I have no idea how this works with monitors, personally i have never heard of anyone frying a monitor from boosting refresh rates!
But I understand why they are taking precautions, when the monitor originally is designed for 60hz.

Arguing prices!
People need to understand one thing, if you get a monitor shipped from korea for 400$
the core price of the monitor is around 250$. they pay EMS ~150$ for shipping.

Example, if you live in Italy (that bad for you!) because!
Italy doesn't accept EMS Shipping so they have to send with fedex!

Yamakasi Catleap Q270 with delivery to Italy costs 650$
Shipping price with FedEX: 400$! ... yes! ... 400...

Now, who still thinks 250$(before shipping) for 27" S-IPS 2560x1440 with capability of 100hz is expencive?
