The water channel is under the metal plate:
55°C for VRMs is pretty good, especially given your OC. IIRC they are good up to 120°C before they start to throttle.

Yep, the EK block cools the VRMs. I triple checked before i bought my EK block (acrylic/copper) as that was a deciding factor for me.

At 1200/1700 1.187v, load is 38C core and 53C on the VRMs.....pretty good if you ask me?

VRMs are rated up to 120 C anyway so you have plenty of headroom. In comparison, the VRMs on my 5870 with EK block hit 65C.

On topic, this Swiftech block looks pretty sweet....$150 seems pretty steep though (for me at least)

not really. the 150 seems to include the backplate and the single pci bracket.

when I bought my parts from ppc the EK block cost 125, the backplate ~32 and the vga is $7 = 164.

like the look. I like that they went the thermal pads are pre-installed and the block covers the whole card.

That's a good point, I forgot about the backplate.

A quick question (perhaps someone is having the same issues as I was/am). I've installed this cooler on my 7970 and when I powered up the PC, the monitor wouldn't turn on. When I took the backplate off, everything worked fine so I guess it was shorting out somewhere (anti-static tape on the backplate does not seem to help at all). Was anyone having similar issues like this? If so, how did you resolve it? I'd really like to have the backplate on and not risk frying something.....plus without it, the card is dragging alot and this obviously is not good for the 7970.
