Better safe than sorry, and with that wattage so low the price difference won't be that great between a 550 and 650W, anyway.

Erugh the PSUs he's picked out is more than fine.

I actually agree with junkman. For a 7950, a 650W PSU would give him the 30% headroom he needs.

-Corsair Hydro Series H80

if the purpose of the rig is gaming, the 2011 platform will not be fully utilize, unless you put some cpu crunching productivity software out there like rendering, I say save you money go with the corei5 2500K, in Sandy bridge platform in z68 motherboard, pep-up the other components, the savings you got from going to SB platform use it, increase you memory frequency to 1600 & 8GB enough, if you have read reviews even the SB-E can not fully utilize the 16GB ram, only 8GB, so if I were you again the savings you put it in the decent 750W 80+ gold or platinum capable of xfire, the more the merrier, xfire that 7950/7970 using the savings, get even the H100 or a watercooling kit like xspc rasa rs240 & overclock the i5 in 5+Ghz, in this way you are maximizing your budget in a worthwhile rig, than your propose build that your not actually going to be utilizing in the end.... just an info if you dont mind smile.gif

That's a good saving for sure, but if I'll buy z68 and sb now I'd be pissed when z77 and ib comes out thumb.gif
So how about buying a nice z77 motherboard and 2500K ? Any info when z77 will be available, I heard that they will be released before Ivy bridges?

I just ordered EVGA GTX680 so I decided that I'm not going to wait for a month since the z68 gen3 motherboards already supports ivy and everything. So far the parts are following:
-i5 2500k
-8GB TeamGroup Elite DDR3
-128GB Samsung SSD 830
-Corsair Hydro Series H80 (fits better to 600t than h100)
- 550-650W powersupply

I don't know what motherboard I should get? Asus Maximus IV GENE-Z/GEN3 seems to be good and so does Asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3. which one is better for gaming?

From what I found, that RAM is 1333. You should get 1600.

Don't cheap out on the PSU - get a quality PSU. Also consider that the first thing you're likely to upgrade is your GPU. You'll either end up getting a newer card, or another one for Xfire. When that happens, you'll probably need a bigger PSU. Seriously, the $30-40 you save now will cost you later. Get a quality 650-750w psu and you wont regret it later.

The 7950 and 7970 are severely overpriced right now at retail. Look around for a used one here, or get a GTX 680.

Here are the specs 8GB TeamGroup Elite DDR3-1333 DIMM CL9 Dual Kit. I was told that it would be pretty good? So is ASRock P67/Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 better than Asus Maximus IV GENE-Z/GEN3 biggrin.gif
