NVIDEA GRAPHICS CARD CRASHING

hey guys, my nvidea 6600 gt (yes i know its a really old card but im using it for server tasks and some minecraft... i do have a actually gaming computer) anyways my nvidea 6600 gt is heating up to about 85 degrees celcius and im wondering if this is normal temperature, that temperature is when i stress test it with kombuster. but then it will all freeze and i will wait and it will just stay frozen, mouse and screen and everything. i would then have to manually restart it by unplugging the computer or turning the psu off. btw my psu is an older 350 watt so am i having a psu problem here or a gpu problem?

well try taking off the gpu heatsink and put something like MX-2 paste on there, it should help alot.

the gpu has a fan and im not sure if this is even heat related at all, also i have NOT overclocked this card

What temperatures do you get when idling or playing minecraft for example? My 9600gt did not like being stress tested either, and since you're not overclocking the card I don't really see the point in stress testing it. Or will it freeze when playing minecraft as well ?

Ok. Since your cards are getting as hot as they are during Kombustor, what I would do is download 3DMark063DMark06 and put the cards through there. If they pull it through that benchmark a few times, I'd say you're good to go.
A second note; how well do you expect these cards to overclock? I came across this thread, it might give you a good idea of how well the card performs under pressure, and how far you can push it before it goes bad.

Also guys do you think this might be software related? Is this lacking some sort of a driver? I'm also wondering if it is my power supply (psu)

Btw thanks for the quick response

If you are serious about getting a new 6600gt, I suggest getting a 400-500w PSU. since you're going to choke your PSU otherwise. If you can, please fill out your signature rig, so that we can have a better look at which components are being powered up in your case.
You can find the rig builder in the top right corner of the site.

You're welcome!

You don't have an Nvidia Graphics driver installed ? If not so, this is the 295 WHQL It is the driver I'm currently using. BUT (!!) this is the Vista 32-Bit version since I don't know what OS you're currently using.

I've given up on buying another 6600gt as I don't believe it is worth it. This card isnt very powerfull anyways do spending more money to upgrade it would be just useless because im not really doing any gaming on this rig anyway... Just trying to oc the whole rig cuz it runs really slow and yes I know oc ing a gpu won't increase much on everyday tasks but I use it for minecraft and I use gsls shaders on it so it kills the gpu. Im also trying to oc my CPU too which i
am also having a lot of trouble with, as you can look at my other thread. I'm just going I use the rig builder so you can understand my rig more
